Well, this looks as about as legit as you can get for the naming of the LCD models (we've already had so many other tidbits and rumours).

From the firmware that leaked last night:

So, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone (insert name for OLED model)?

EDIT: iPhone X confirmed as OLED model name?

Works for me, I'm coming from a 6 and like to skip 2 models which I have. I will not get the OLED until they bring Touch ID back which I suspect will be sometime next year.

iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X always did sound like the most likely naming scheme. I'm imagining the iPhone X will be pronounced "ex" and not "10", as having two numbered iPhones makes the lower number seem outdated instantly.

The iPhone X naming scheme has a problem. What will they call that model next year?

iPhone XX? Lol. I dislike the name as I worry they'll refer to it as 'ten' which will be weird with a new 'eight' in the lineup. And most people will probably say 'ex'.

Maybe this will be a one off with the name X?

Yes they will. Once they find a way to integrate it into the screen it will come back.
It depends on whether they touch upon the subject at the Keynote. If they don't, than its coming back. If they harp on and on about how FaceID is superior to TouchID its not noming back

This rumor has already been mentioned before. Just more marketing spin from Apple.

I don't see how the ip7/+ jumps to the ip8/+ this year and leapfrogs the 'S' designation.

There is really no justification for it and the only reason why Apple will do it is to position the September standard phones so that the public will better accept them.

Or they may make it like the iPad. iPhone X (2017) (2018) etc

Its not a rumor. Those names are extracted from the official GM firmware which leaked today. They are the official names.

If those LCD phones are called iPhone 8, that means Apple's discontinuing the use of the S moniker

Having tried a version of "Face ID" on the Note 8.......yes, I want Touch ID back.

Is that your argument? Facial recognition on the Note 8 is quite poor and slow. Don’t judge Face ID on the iPhone X based on the Note. It would have been like judging Touch ID based on the old swiping fingerprint readers.

Face ID has potential to make Touch ID and the need for that interaction feel old and slow.

More than a rumour at this point. It was found in the GM firmware.

I’m glad they went with X over Edition or 8. In terms of what they’ll name it next year, it probably won’t have a sequel. It’s probably a one-off for the annuversary and next year will be the 9/9+ with the X’s features (OLED, Camera, etc)

You haven't tried Apple's version it is different from Samsung! Your trying to compare a feature that Samsung have come up with to what Apple are doing.

I’m still holding out hope that Apple’s FaceID is going to leapfrog the competition like how Touch ID did to Samsung’s Galaxy S5 fingerprint scanner

The funny thing is, the S5's fingerprint scanner came out *after* Apple introduced TouchID. It was Samsung's response to to TouchID, but felt so clunky and outdated when compared to a phone that was ~7 months older than it.

And no one has tried "FACE ID" yet but you're here making claims on how its "different".

I can't imagine pulling out my phone in public everyday and putting to my face just to open it, just my opinion don't get your panties in a bunch over preferences.

According to what has been seen in person, with the iPhone X itself, you simply pick up the phone and use it. No unlocking, no fiddling, no scanning your face. It’ll be seamless authentication. Different level entirely from what Samsung currently has.

All we’re saying is don’t judge it based on a competitor’s product that is noted to perform poorly.

I haven't judged it. Like I said it's a Preference, I want TOUCH ID. If it never comes to OLED then I guess I will always have the lesser version of the iPhone or I will always use PIN to open it up, simple.

You obviously haven't seen the leaked information about it. Much better than that of Samsung's and the other competition. just wait and see what they show at Tuesdays keynote.
