It depends on whether they touch upon the subject at the Keynote. If they don't, than its coming back. If they harp on and on about how FaceID is superior to TouchID its not noming back
Oh you know they are gonna harp on it. They are gonna try their best to convince you Face ID is the best thing ever and Touch ID is outdated tech that no one should want.

I haven't judged it. Like I said it's a Preference, I want TOUCH ID. If it never comes to OLED then I guess I will always have the lesser version of the iPhone or I will always use PIN to open it up, simple.

My initial question was - if Face ID is superior to Touch ID, and allows greater use of display/space on the front of the device, would you still want Touch ID? So are you saying you’d still want Touch ID instead?

It will unlock the moment you look down to enter the pin lol

Well, this looks as about as legit as you can get for the naming of the LCD models (we've already had so many other tidbits and rumours).

From the firmware that leaked last night:

So, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone (insert name for OLED model)?

EDIT: iPhone X confirmed as OLED model name?

Currently it is mentioned as iphone X. As iPhone is not going to be released along with iphone 8 . there is going to be an update to software when the iphone X names gets changed with new fetures of iphone added

What exactly are you trying to say?

since alot of apple devices still have touchID, they are not going to talk it down. they will just say that faceID is even better ;)

Are you trying to say that once it’s launched the name might not be iPhone X? Or that future OLED iPhones may move on from the X name to something else?

it is just a place holder name and it will change with the next update before the release as lot more features needs to be added to the new OLED with IOS 11.1

This year =
8 --- 8 Plus --- X.
Next year (when/if OLED supply increases) =
X2 --- X2 Plus.

Simple and clever.

So, hypothetically, if Face ID is clearly superior to Touch ID, and changes the way we can use our iPhones, you’d still prefer to go back to Touch ID?

Even now, with iOS 11, so many things I’m doing on the cover sheet or in widgets cause prompt for the Touch ID interaction, where with Face ID it won’t have to interrupt what you’re doing as it’ll be in an unlocked state while you’re looking at the device.

That’s the other thing from the leak, it’ll supposedly know when you are paying attention to the screen, and if you are, it can adjust settings like dimming the screen and going to sleep.

So much potential with it.

Some people don't want to unlock their phone everytime they look down or pick up their phones. Most likely to prevent this, you will have to press something before face ID kicks in.

From what people have seen with recent models in testing, picking up the phone will trigger raise to wake for the screen to light up. And when your attention is detected the phone will be in an unlocked state. It’ll be significantly different than a manual form of authentication.

LOL.

There are plenty of cars that are "Superior" to everything in made in the past. Guess what? I'd prefer some of those old school cars to todays. There is nothing wrong with it. Like I said, PIN will always be there and so will the lower model phones. But I can bet Apple will bring Touch ID back integrated into the OLED. Reports said they were looking into it and couldn't find a solution at this time, but eventually they will.

Still their are instances where you pick up your phone just to see the clock or the always on display like on Samsung devices. I still wouldn't want my phone to unlock everyone it notices my face.

Exactly. The one thing I liked about the Note 8 was it gave you the option of how to unlock your phone. Like I said PIN hasn't gone, so why should Touch ID. Apple just didn't have enough time to figure out how to make it work but they will and it will be included for those who choose to have that as their option.

Honestly, I think those reports were more to mislead everyone from discovering Face ID.

If you want to use the car analogy, I would liken it to how EVs function compared to ICE. They truly make ICE cars archaic.

Anyway, nothing wrong if you prefer the older iPhone with manual Touch ID unlocking. Just surprised that someone wouldn’t prefer something that is superior in every way.

It’ll be seamless and instant though - not an unlock where you’re suddenly at the home screen. Pick it up to look at the time, put it back down.

Why should Touch ID be gone? Because it’s likely getting replaced by something which could be superior in every way. And because Touch ID requires a portion of the front of the phone to be occupied. And because the interaction model of iOS on this iPhone X is completely changing from what we were used to before.

They won't bring Touch ID back!
Yeah, once I read the facial ID will not be on X, I suspected maybe they are having problems with this on the new OLED screen...but I really do think they are phasing Touch ID out. 8, 8 Plus (I guess next years rumored smaller newer SE model) will be the final phones with Touch ID.

they might not even have decided that yet.
but if most users like face ID alot, you can pretty much forget about seeing touchID again.. touchID under the screen will add an additional layer to the display and apple doesn't like to waste space.
