So, hypothetically, if Face ID is clearly superior to Touch ID, and changes the way we can use our iPhones, you’d still prefer to go back to Touch ID?
Even now, with iOS 11, so many things I’m doing on the cover sheet or in widgets cause prompt for the Touch ID interaction, where with Face ID it won’t have to interrupt what you’re doing as it’ll be in an unlocked state while you’re looking at the device.
That’s the other thing from the leak, it’ll supposedly know when you are paying attention to the screen, and if you are, it can adjust settings like dimming the screen and going to sleep.

From what people have seen with recent models in testing, picking up the phone will trigger raise to wake for the screen to light up. And when your attention is detected the phone will be in an unlocked state. It’ll be significantly different than a manual form of authentication.
