How did I miss this thread? Yeah, if someone has the pic, please attack it.

I mentioned this on the mainpage thread when I saw the picture:

I think it's fake.

First, the chances of this "accidently" appearing on Apple are slim.

Second, if you look at the image on the 14" iBook. You notice that the right edge and bottom edge have some outlines or something. Most noticable on the bottom. It looks like it's at a slight angle. It looks to me like the person photoshopping it screwed up a bit.

Also, someone else mentioned that it's not actually a 14". I wasn't able to check that because the image vanished after.

Hey, was just browsing The Unofficial Apple Weblog and found they have a small screenshot of the image in question.

Not to say that i'm better with photoshop, but at least make it look better. Why would they use a STI Rally car to promote the iBook, that just makes no sense and something that Apple have never done before, they will more likely use a beach or some other scenery.

It looks the same... i doubt Apple will make the iBook look the same look.

They happened to capture the site when the new headline was the one about new iBooks? FAKE!

Maybe to show off speed? I dunno.

In the US, the graphics on the main iBook page are sports-related too -- snowboarding -- and not scenery. I think of all the things that says this is fake, the fact that there's a rally car on it is probably not the most convincing one. ;)

It's now appearing on engadget:

Romulan Ambassador from DS9 says...
"It's a faaaake!!!"

look closely at the right edge of the widescreen iBook: You'll see that the image doesn't quite match up. Also, parts of the widescreen iBook look "stretched". I say it's a fake...

If you're gonna PS a fake then at least do it right... I mean I'm no expert but I managed to make my iBook Mini PS look real *points below*

if apple releases a widescreen iBook, it cannot be 14.1 inches wide -- it would cannabalize 12" and 15" powerbook sales. i'm all for 13.3" widescreen, nothing else.

How do you figure that a 14" widescreen would cannibalize PB 12" sales? That computer would be a lot, lot bigger than a 12" PB... you'd think that would be enough to detract most 12" buyers. Or are you mostly concerned with price overlap?

You gotta be kiddin' me... Did anybody actually believe that image to be real?

For those saying that the Photoshop job is bad, it really isn't all that much. There are things that make it a fake more than the bad image editting.

First of all the headline is the biggest mistake there is. How would Apple say "see everything in widescreen" and HIDE a 14" widescreen iBook below a 4x3 12" iBook?
If the title were to be real, then only the 14" iBook would be on the page. The 12" 4x3 iBook wouldn't make sense.
And I think the use of the word widescreen in the blue title is also incorrect. It doesn't sound right. It should say '14" widescreen' and not 'widescreen 14"'.

Then there's the subaru name that someone pointed out already. The HotNews headline doesn't sound right, besides saying the same thing as the blue headline.

Maybe all this has been said at the beginning of the thread, but I just stumbled on to it looking for follow ups to the previous thinksecret rumor.

Duff-Man says....this happens just about every time the rumours start to hit a fever pitch...someone posts a fake Apple "leaked" page and people start to work themselves into a frenzy.....oh yeah!

it's mainly the price overlap, yet i expect apple to do something with the smallest powerbook that will make it super cool again.

Check out this leaked page, it has since been changed back. It could look like this when the new iBooks are introduced.

ibook link

edit: it appears that the 14 inch is only in widescreen.

it must be fake. it says "See everything in widescreen", yet only the 14" iBook is widescreen in that picture. the 12" iBook would have to be widescreen for that to be convincing.

none of these links are working for me? why not? thats wierd.....i hope they update the ibooks
