Apple is set to unveil iOS 27 with an all-new Siri app and more next week, but there are some compatibility details to know about.

According to Instant Digital, a known Apple leaker on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, iOS 27 will be compatible with the iPhone 12 series and newer. However, given the more personalized version of Siri will be powered by Apple Intelligence, the revamped Siri is expected to be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and newer.

If this rumor is accurate, iOS 27 will drop support for the following iPhone models:
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation)
However, these devices will continue to receive iOS 26 security updates for at least a few years.

iOS 27 will be compatible with the following iPhone models, according to the leaker:
  • iPhone 17e
  • iPhone 17
  • iPhone 17 Pro
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max
  • iPhone Air
  • iPhone 16e
  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15
  • iPhone 15 Plus
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (3rd generation)
Apple will unveil iOS 27 during its WWDC 2026 keynote this Monday, June 8, and the first developer beta should be released later that day. A public beta typically follows in July, ahead of a final release to all users in September.

iOS 27 been likened to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, in the sense that Apple is reportedly focused on bug fixes and stability improvements. There will still be some new features, though, including the dedicated Siri app with ChatGPT-like chatbot functionality and Apple Intelligence enhancements across other Apple apps.

Instant Digital has accurately leaked Apple information before, such as the yellow color for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, and the Apple Watch Ultra 2's Titanium Milanese Loop. However, the account does not have a perfect track record.

while I absolutely would not doubt it, I would not take this report with too much authenticity.
Chinese leakers can report things from the supply chain, but software is a completely different beast.
Also we get these device support rumors every single year, and a lot of the times they are very wrong.
Apple was rumored to drop support for the iPhone 6S in both iOS 14 and 15, the 6S was supported by both.

iPadOS 27 [20] - A13 Bionic and newer (iPad 9 and newer)
iOS 27 [20] - A14 Bionic and newer (iPhone 12 and newer)

Pretty sure this is what will be announced on WWDC 2026

iPhone 11, iPhone SE 2020, iPhone SE 2022 - 3GB
iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 - 4GB
iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15 - 6GB

iOS 26 should have been limited to iPhone models with 6GB RAM and higher and iOS 27 should do the same.

Don’t mind being left behind by Apple and getting stuck on iOS 26 with updates for a few years, my big complaint is developers drop support for previous iOS versions way too early while other ones still maintain support as far back as iOS 13.
My banking app is notorious and dropping compatibility if older than two versions even though their interface is just a web portal forcing you to use Safari to access your account while other apps like Telegram try to keep support for the last seven iOS releases.

iOS 26 works surprisingly well for my 11 Pro Max

Completely disagree, there is absolutely no reason the 2021 iPad 9 (which was still being sold until 2024) and the 2022 iPhone SE 3 (which was literally still being sold last year) should lose support.
Absolutely never understood these posts of people advising Apple to *drop* devices.
If anything, given that all the rumors are that this year will be more of a refined release, it shouldn’t drop any devices.

So a company that constantly talks about reuse and recycled materials constantly makes perfectly good hardware "vintage". Speaking out of both sides of their mouth, eh?
Sure, but can you name an android phone from 2019 that’s still being supported?
Samsung and Google didn’t even promised seven years of support until 2024, and none of those 2024 devices are anywhere close to seven years old yet so we have no idea if they will even stick to that.
The Google pixel 4, which came out after the iPhone 11 series, stopped receiving software updates in October 2023. That’s almost 3 years ago. And yet the iPhone 11 is still supported. Even the iPhone 6S from 2015 and the iPad Air 2 from 2014 still get regular security updates about once a quarter, 11 and 12 years after they were released respectively.

I feel you, but banking apps do this due to the increased risk of vulnerabilities in older OS versions.

Maybe try to re-read my post. I mentioned iOS 26 compatibility should have been limited to 6GB RAM and higher. And on my previous post, the one I quoted, I mentioned iPadOS 27 will support iPad 9 and newer.

I read your post perfectly fine, I completely disagree with it.
Limiting OS 26 to devices with 6 GB or higher means that even the standard iPhone 13 and 13 Mini from just four 1/2 years ago lose support, and for literally no reason.
Especially when they are going to have to support iPads with less either way, given that the base iPad didn’t get 6 GB of RAM until last year.
Why are we now saying devices from 2021 and 2022 should be dropped when currently there are supporting devices from 2018 and 2019? It’s ridiculous.
It’s like saying that they should cut off all M1 and M2 Macs… just because.
No, they shouldn’t. There is absolutely no reason for it.

For a phone that everybody but me hates, it always surprises me to see that my 12 Mini is still going.

Seriously gonna be devo when it stops being a viable phone as I don't wanna increase the size of my phone.

Side note I had my battery replaced less than 12 months ago and it's already down to 80% capacity. Apple refuses to discuss how close this is to being a defective battery, citing policies about charge cycles and the like. Oh for the days when I could just figging replace it myself for 20 bucks and one charge would last a week.

I wish there were options outside the Apple/Android duopoly TBH... was at a flea market in Milan the other week and saw a heap of old Nokias. Was like 'yeeeah if these supported 5G, e-mail, Whatsapp, Facebook and basic web browsing I'd be pretty happy with an oldschool style phone ay!'

To add a bit more context to Apple dropping these devices:
  • Dropping the 11's + the SE 2 (2020) would drop the A13 Bionic Family
  • All remaining devices would:
    • be on a 5nm platform or newer
    • have 4GB of RAM or more
    • support 5G
  • All remaining devices, outside of the SE 3 (2022), would have:
    • FaceID
    • OLED
    • Magsafe (minus 16e)
While I never love devices getting dropped, if this truly is a "Snow Leopard," code cleaning update, it would make a lot of sense to drop the 11's and the SE 2, as the features become much more unified across the remaining devices. Additionally, the jump in performance from the A13 to the A14 is significant enough to justify dropping one generation of phones and not the other.

The only thing holding this back is that the iPad ninth generation still has the A13 with 3 GB of RAM and the home button with no MagSafe.
Same with the 2020 iPad Pro, which is almost identical to the 2018 iPad Pro with the A12Z.
Yes, I know iPadOS isn’t iOS, but under the surface, they are the same. They even shared the exact same version numbers down to the build number.

Entirely fair! But Apple tends to support iPads differently from iPhones. Even iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 support different chip levels: iOS 26 already dropped A12 devices, while iPadOS 26 continues to support the A12 iPad 8, iPad Air 3, and iPad mini 5.

I wouldn't be surprised if the A12 iPads get dropped, minus the 2020 iPad Pro (an 8 core CPU is still a monster by today's standards). It does weaken my claims a bit about the optimizations, but I do think that the two platforms are becoming different enough over the years that Apple would be willing to make optimizations/deletions to one and not the other, or vice versa.
