This will be a good location. Working a few blocks away, I can see this place getting a lot of traffic. A lot of residents who find the Georgetown store inconvenient, will be very happy about this.
It all makes sense now, for a while local rumors were that Apple was opening a store in the newly built City Center shopping complex a few blocks away from this location, but seems they had their eye on the Carnegie Library from the get go.

I live a few blocks from there and agree this is a great location for an Apple Store.

They're currently located in Pentagon City Mall (Alexandria, VA), Clarendon (Arlington, VA) and Georgetown (which is not metro accessible).

Not to forget, Tysons Corner... which is Metro Accessible.

I am totally amazed this made it past the D.C. Historical Preservation Review Board.

Nearby Pentagon City Apple Store and Clarendon are both at Metro stops and Tyson's Corner is on new silver line at huge mall (all across river in Arlington and/or Fairfax) - but yes, Mt. Vernon will be a hot spot - no one mentions that for much of the year, DC is utterly over run with tourists, and most carrying an iPhone, at least. Plus what, 5 major universities? in less than 10 sq miles. The only other Apple store actually in the District is the anemic one in Georgetown. For the architectural critics, better or for worse, I would say almost half of the buildings in large parts of DC are a century old or more and most are in excellent shape with up-to-date skylights - museum quality everywhere and many solicit events like festivals or conferences so this is extending that kind of thing. https://www.apple.com/retail/georgetown/

There are also Apple Retail Stores at Fair Oaks Mall, Reston Towne Center and Montgomery Mall.

I don't think any of them have Metro Rail access. But they are a short drive from D.C. if you aren't in rush hour traffic.

Apple fans in the D.C. area are very fortunate to have a number of options when it comes to Apple Retail Stores. I think Richmond, VA only has a single location.

I probably won't ever visit this new location as I avoid going into D.C. as much as possible. But for the people who live and work in that area, if you are happy then I am happy for you.
