I just applied Obenauf Leather Oil and this band feels soft and smells great now with no more clicking noise

Sounds like a great way to maintain it.

I am quite a sweaty person and Hong Kong humidity doesn't help at all. So this might be an option for those who sweat lots!

Interesting. How much different does it feel? Looks darker too.

There was never a clicking noise if you just loosen it a notch without applying stuff to it. I own 3 loops, all are quiet once you adjust them...

    Without gooping them up.......

I wonder if oil would change the color much on the blue loop? I'd like to protect the leather from sweat if possible, even though I don't plan to workout with it.

obenauf will always make the leather darker, but in most cases, it looks better. i applied this oil on my leather Wolverine 1000's, and it looks better bc it is darker.

I use oil on one of my hands almost every day, sometimes twice in a day if I'm feeling good. Perhaps a little oil splashing up onto my watch might be in order...

Leather bands require maintenance so it's not really gooping it up

If it's making it darker, it's gooping it up to me…

Leathers a natural product. It goes lighter when it dries out and darker when it's been treated. If you don't moisturise it with the correct product it will dry and split.

Is obenauf the right product? I couldn't find anything from Apple with care instructions for the leather loop or leather bands.

It's exactly the right stuff to use. Google some before and after shots and you'll see how good the stuff really is.

Based on your experience/observations, I bought a container of this from Cabelas today. I will be applying it to my leather loop band tonight so it can sit on the leather overnight.

I'm not sure that unknown oils might be the best thing four our skin. I think natural oils from our skin though help condition leather watch bands but it might benefit.. there again it might pose an allergy risk.

There again, I do have a Barmah 'Squashy' Oiled Leather hat which I condition occasionally with a white spirit and lanolin based leather care cream and it doesn't bother my scalp.

Here are some more close up photos. Don't know if u guys can tell, but the leather feels so much more breathable. And yes it does get darker but imo looks great. I think if u get the brown/tan/blue it will also look better if it got darker

Anyone conditioned the classic buckle band? Just wondering if it changed it at all?

The classic band feels like cardboard to me.

I don't really think so. I happen to like it, a lot. That's why I want to keep it in good shape.

I have a classic buckle band and it did feel sort of stiff when I first got it until I used some leather conditioner on it and now it feels nice and soft. I think all the leather bands (and cases) Apple sells are meant to (and should) have conditioner used on them, just like any other nice product made from leather. Most of us just aren't used to owning stuff made with leather and don't know how to properly care for it right off the bat.

Tbh Apple employees should probably be trained to tell people about conditioning their leather products because I only figured it out when my first red leather iPhone case got really dirty and I started searching online for how to clean it.

Here's just my opin after treating and conditioning lots of hi end leather:

If the piece is new and a conditioner turns it darker, I'm not interested

If a piece dries out and a conditioner returns it to the original color, I'm in.

One I know that does not darken new stuff is the conditioner used by saddleback leather, a maker of hi end briefcases: Chamberlain’s leather milk, also amour all leather wipes do not darken either.

Used the conditioner last night on my leather loop.

    Happy with the results.

I will be doing this at least once a week now.
