A little back story.

I switched to Android after the iPhone 6 plus. Since then I've been buying Galaxy Notes year after year. This year no new Galaxy Note, so I had to purchase the S22 Ultra. Purchased that at launch earlier this year. About a month ago the finger print coating started to wear off in a certain spot on the screen. Also the lag when extensively using the camera really annoyed me. And it got hot easily with camera use. I use my camera daily as I sell full time on ebay.

Last month I opened a ticket with samsung repair, after about a week they sent it back and did nothing with it. Didn't even replace the screen. Called and got another ticket opened for a repair. Again, I got an email saying the phone is being returned with no repair. I was pretty angry at this point. So I called and they said it's not being returned but it's being transferred to another department and I'll have a replacement sent to me. A week goes by and I call again and now I'm told by a rep that I'm scheduled to get a refund. First I'm hearing about a refund. I honestly think they lost my device. So they're paying me out 1400. Cool. I traded in my Note 20 ultra to get the S22 Ultra and I got $1000 instant trade credit. So getting $1400 back, not going to argue that.

This lead me to think about what device I wanted to buy. I don't want to get the S22 Ultra again because I just wasn't happy with it. Felt rushed. Felt bleh for being Samsungs big flagship. I didn't want a fold 4 because I don't want to have to white glove the phone with the scare of getting a spec of dust on that soft inside screen and scratching it up.

What about me going back to an iPhone!? I had them in the past. I still use apple products. Have an old Macbook Pro and an old iMAC. So I'm not anti apple by any means. Have no idea what hardware version they're on or anything. So I look and perfect timing. The iPhone 14 is about to launch. And the Pro Max seems to be a great fit.

Must haves.... 120hz screen. After going 120hz I cannot go back. I just cant. The pro seems to have that now. I need a camera that just works and a must is having a 1x1 aspect ratio for my ebay pictures. I think the iPhone is capable of that. I'll just have to get used to getting back into the iOS groove. Seems like they added a lot of other things too like multi-tasking, notifications, etc.

One thing I'm not sure of is how do I migrate all my text messages from my android device to the new iPhone. Is this something that can be done through set-up or do I have to do this with software?

Another question is my call logs. I like to transfer all of my call logs over. Is that also doable at set-up or does that need to be done with an app after the fact?

I'm going to miss my s-pen very, very much. I'm also going to miss my samsung notes app but I'll just have to get used to apple notes I guess.

I'm worried about the display. I'm used to the samsung displays which are fantastic and very very bright. But hoping the apple display is going to be good.

Kind of excited to make the jump though. Feels like a fresh start again. If anyone has any must have applications please throw recommendations my way. Always like tinkering with stuff.

Oh! Any good case recommendations and a screen protector? Any other accessories?

Awesome, welcome back! I haven’t done it before but there is an app by Apple called Move to iOS that will facilitate the transfer. Check out this article for more details: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201196. Looks like it’ll do messages but perhaps not call logs.

I have been caseless so far but some popular ones I’ve heard are Spigen, Caudabe, Otterbox, and of course the official Apple cases. 🙂

Thank you and appreciate the link.

Thanks for recommendations on those cases. I would go naked as intended but I'm one to drop and crack. So a case is a must even though I don't like it.

Perhaps get the expensive Apple Care or Apple Care+ if you are a dropper and it seems this is a vital tool for your full time business so probably a tax write off.

Another Pixel 6 Pro to iPhone 14 Pro Max convert to be here, but without the 'awesome' feelings associated with the android phone. While it is visually a nice phone, for me, it was nothing but headache with esim dropouts requiring resets pretty much bi-weekly to monthly, features suddenly working and not working depending on the 'mood' of the phone (voice commands would not work, the dock would not charge the phone, etc.), and a lot of minor glitches that never even got resolved when moving to Android 13. I'm pretty much done with it and here I am seeing everybody around me with an iphone not having as many issues as I had with this and the previous generation of android devices I've been using...I'm think I'm ready for a change.

Congrats on the decision, OP!

I bought a 13 Pro Max 256 in March, to replace an LG V60. The V60 is a great phone but since LG pulled out of the smartphone market, instead of waiting for the phone to no longer be supported, I decided to jump ship a bit early. I'll use the V60 as a backup phone.

I'm quite happy with the 13 PM. The cameras on the LG are better, though (by a lot) and I miss having the option for external (SD card) storage, but I'm loving the iPhone and Mac ecosystem.

This isn't my first iPhone, but the last time I'd owned one was back in 2006-2007. I needed a new phone and didn't like the current Android options, so there was really nothing holding me back from getting an iPhone.

I bought a Spigen Magsafe case for mine (a battery pack is next, maybe for Christmas), a pair of AirPod Pros, and a Slitinto 33@ dual USB-C wall charger.

The galaxy s22 ultra removed expandable storage and I survived so I should be good on the iPhone. My main bulk is pictures and that all gets backed up to Google photos automatically and I usually delete pictures of my phone in batches of needed. So should be an easy transition.

One thing I'm wondering is access to internal files. If I download a pdf is there a way to go into your iPhones file system to transfer or open files? I remember that not being the case way back when I used iPhone.

I have galaxy pro ear buds and read they work with iPhone but you can't access some of the internal features found in the galaxy wear app on Android. Whatever. As long as they sync up and I can listen that is fine.

I'm 40 years old. Why am I so giddy about the iPhone event today. Lol.

I think I want to get the mous case. Been watching reviews on that and it seems fantastic. I'll also need to buy a magsafe external charger for the bedside.

Thanks all for the replies.

So I ordered my new iPhone. Purchased a 512gb Pro Max in silver. I always liked the white iPhones so I went with silver.

Anddddddd my wife also made the switch. She is trading in her Samsung S21 ultra and is also getting a Pro Max in silver (512gb)

We ordered through Verizon. Was super easy. The only thing that I hate with monthly payments is they force you into 36 months. They're giving me 400 for my cracked pixel 3. That's insane.

Wife is getting 800 for her S21 ultra. That is also pretty awesome.

Figure we will just ride out these monthly promotional credits for however long feels necessary until a new device drops and I feel I NEED to get it. At that time I'll just pay off the remaining payments out of pocket. Until then. I'll take the credits.
