I just installed the latest version of OS X on my mid-2011 27 imac.

Suddenly, left clicking does not work. No matter where I click on my magic mouse, it does the right click.

I then plugged in a wireless mouse (via USB) which has separate right and left click buttons. Same behavior: left click does not work.

Any ideas? Would really appreciate some help. Thanks.

It's not how you're holding it. It's a known (if sadly unresolved) issue. Dealing with it now, too, as are many others. A restart usually fixes it, but it keeps happening. It's bound to be some preferences file. Already zapped my PRAM and rest the SMC.

I did check the mouse prefs. Nothing there. Right click still gets me contextual, and enter/return still works if I can highlight a menu item with a right click. Can't figure out what triggers the problem. It's super frustrating, because even with frequent saving I lose work. (I am also using MagicPrefs 2.4.3. But I've had that for years without incident.)

I’m having this same problem now after updating to High Sierra. Suddenly neither right- nor left-click work (on both my 2016 MBP’s trackpad and my Magic Mouse) when booted up into the main partition. I have also tried disk first aid, resetting the SMC and PRAM, ETC. Right- and left-click both work fine however, when I am booted up into the Recovery partition. Doing a reinstall to see if it fixes it.
