...only for one hour, and it was inside my backpack on the backseat. I realized and had my girlfriend scoop it up, so it was only in there an hour. Just got it this month, brand new, late 2014 model. Is my baby okay? Worried.
As long as you weren't operating it outside the recommended temperature range, you don't have anything to worry about. Even then, your Mac would automatically shut down before it could overheat, to prevent damage....only for one hour, and it was inside my backpack on the backseat. No tests are needed. Relax and enjoy your Mac.I've been using and it seems just fine. I can't tell anything wrong or a difference in battery life. Is there a battery test I can run to make sure it's good?

Best answer. There's parents that leave their children and pets in the car for longer than that. Your computer is fine, for the love of god relax.
Yeah put on some shorts, sit with your new baby on your legs, watch a 1080p movie or two. If you think the bottom of your rMBP is hotter than your car was then you are good to go.I've been using and it seems just fine. I can't tell anything wrong or a difference in battery life. It should be fine. Just be happy your windows were not smashed.
If the computer were left in the car in direct sunlight, is there anything in the screen portion of it that wouldn't react that well to the intense heat?
Yes the intense heat would cause the image of the porn you were watching last night to be recalled and permanently burned in to it.
The consequences of this would of course be dire, as best case you have a useless laptop. But worst case you first open it when someone else is present, your reputation is then damaged for perpetuity and you die from embarrassment RIP.
So, don't leave your machine in your car in direct sunlight, it could result in YOUR death!
Or perhaps the worst that can happen is some happy go lucky thief smashes your window to see whats in the bag and shouts CHA-CHING Jackpot :/

It could have sustained serious damage. In order to counteract the heat damage, I would suggest placing it into a bucket of ice water for an hour.
Take a look at the specifications for storage. You'll see that it can be stored in very hot temperatures, and you are concerned about leaving it for an hour. Your concerns are ridiculous, and that should put your mind at ease. There are plenty of tests, but performance on them would have nothing to do with where you left that machine.
