I ordered my first custom Mac and so it is shipping out of China. My shipping status looks like this:

SHANGHAI CN Sep 21, 2011 9:00 PM At local FedEx facility
SHANGHAI CN Sep 20, 2011 5:42 PM Left FedEx origin facility
SHANGHAI CN Sep 20, 2011 3:56 PM Picked up

Does this make sense to anyone? When do you think it will be on a plane out of China?!?

It's normal. You will most likely receive it on or before the estimated delivery date. Relax and be patient.

Apple must get charged a crap-load for shipping! I used the free option and it says it will be here Tuesday...less then a week away!

Nah - they have a special deal with FedEx given the weight they move.

As for your question about Shanghai - it probably represents being picked up from Apple, arriving at Fedex' local sort facility and then going to the Shanghai hub in preparation of being loaded on a plane. Stuff doesn't always go right to the hub; even in the same city as they hub.

I wouldn't worry about anything. I've received some really weird shipping routes as well :D

I've had items from Apple that came from Shanghai, went to Alaska, then one or two places in the midwest U.S., then back west to Vancouver, east to Winnipeg, then north to Edmonton and finally to their destination in Calgary.

Thankfully I'm in the Midwest U.S. :D
