Been on Macrumors for 13 years now. Don't post much, mainly just a lurker. Is there any way I can get access to the marketplace? Or are there no exceptions to the minimum 250 post rule?

Desperately looking for a used M1 Macbook Pro, and I'd imagine the Macrumors marketplace would be among the most trustworthy sources for that.

I was surprised to find out about this too. Normally no need for it but do have a Mac Pro 2009 to sell now. I am actually not sure, are there any other appropriate places for this?

also a bit off topic but on the policy, wouldn't that just encourage a lot of garbage posting? (+1 post )

One of the reasons behind the post count requirement is to give the MacRumors community a chance to become familiar with the buyer or seller. This process helps establish trust, showing that the person is an active and valued member, rather than just using MacRumors for buying and selling. Our goal is to maintain a community-centered marketplace for everyone involved.

If a buyer has concerns about a seller, they can review the seller’s post history to get a sense of their character and decide if they're comfortable buying from them.

As for low-quality or "post-padding" behavior, we rely on the forum rules to manage this. Our staff, along with vigilant members, will notice such activity, and appropriate moderation will follow.

That makes great sense. I have no doubt the staff has considered well the 250 post number. That said, one might think that length of time being a member + quality posts would be relevant factors. Also, if I were buying, I wouldn't need to read more than a few posts by the seller to get a sense of the reputation.

You would be surprised. Fake accounts with just enough posts to look active are somewhat common. Recently some members of a classic car site I am on have been burned by such accounts, they post a part for sale and ghost after getting either a deposit or payment. Not saying the buyers should be more aware, but it is still a sad state of affairs.

I think you would agree that a 10 year old account with a couple thousand posts is far more likely to be on the up and up versus a 10 year old account with 6 posts.

Those are extreme numbers. I have about 79 posts last I checked -- and I only checked because of this requirement. One would think that that, plus that they are pretty much all substantive posts, plus 16 years on the site, would be enough to establish reputation. It's just a shame cuz I'd like to sell equipment which would almost be appreciated no where else but here, and I really don't want to just post because of that. I could sit on this for a while longer in order to do that but isn't that artificial? I'm not looking for an exception pleading my sad case here :) but it does seem worth further consideration for the sake of others, both buyers and sellers.
