I am one of those that could buy this for $329! 😆 But not a subscription on top of that…

I much prefer this one when I’m in the field taking professional photo and video. The hand strap and base feel more like the authentic DSLR/Mirrorless experience, it functions as a stand, has wireless Qi charging, rotates portrait and landscape, and the stability of this design allows one-handed shots even while driving off-road without fear I’m going to lose everything.

I have used it for ghost fun in Savannah, an entire D.C. tour, and sent it with my parents to Africa. It looks bulky, but you can still go portrait mode and back pocket the iPhone Pro Max on a trip. Did I mention it’s half this price and sold in the Apple Store making it eligible for Veteran’s Discounts 🥳

Leica Lux produces good filtered image. I am not so sure about the grip, but considering that they sell thumbgrip for near $300….

Leica is the camera equivalent of Apple - high quality goods at very high prices, aimed at consumers and pros.

I'm not sure that comparison is apt

I think Leica plays at a level well above Apple

It seems like far more of a luxury brand, as their pricing really outpaces anything related to actual costs/value

Tons of baked in brand history and perception, especially now in the digital era

20$ and I’ll think about that.

350$ is a halfway to decent NEW standalone camera with real sensor, lens and good image quality. Used cameras are even cheaper and can be bought off facebook marketplace in few clicks

Not a product I’d necessarily use often but I do like the concept. One thing is for certain, it will be of a much higher quality than the $20 Temu “equivalent”

Anyone complaining about the price clearly doesn’t use Leica or Leica accessories. This might actually be the cheapest thing they sell. It’s probably just not for you!

Yea, good points, especially for stuff aimed at consumers. I used a Leica film camera back in the day, and it was an amazing piece of kit.

why do all these product seem to think magsafe means 'secure attachment' when the reality is that magsafe literally means 'easier to detach' That is the whole raison d'trere of magsafe. The whole gimmick is that it's easy to detach (and attach) It is not a secure attachment, it is an easy to remove attachment. Magsafe on the whole kinda sucks, but I hate all these products that seem to think I'm gonna trust a $1000 fragile device to some magnets that are deigned to easily come detached. Bonkers.

Add a lens rangefinder, manual focus, then I'll be possibily interested. I've looked at a few devices to turn an iphone into an actual camera. But they all suck so far. Iphones biggest drawback to actual camera use (e..g on holiday etc) is bat life. I'd pay good money for an iphone that has nothing except camera, battery and better handling.

Almost everyone commenting is not an actual photographer. Maybe they use their iPhone as a camera but I bet most people only do set-up shots where they tell the subject where to stand and they say "3, 2, 1 Snap". The bare cell phone is ok for that kind of shot.

But what if you photograph the real world, not the one you set up? Then you are looking at the subject and can not possibly take eyes off of it to muck with an iPhone menu system or on-screen camera controls. With a real camera, I have controls I can use without the need to look at them. This device would allow me to interact with the subject and not the touch screen.

So my initial opinion is:
1) It would be nice to use but the price is very much too high
2) Buttons on the device are nice but way too small compared to an M series Leica or a Nikon dSLR. There should be at least a front and rear dial and a few buttons on the back
3) Most people have no use for it because they do a slower kind of photography where the subject stops moving and looks at the camera. IPhone are already good if the photographer has control over the subject.

I get what you are saying, and I’m not going to tell you how much value you should find in this product. What I will say is that when I want to actually engage in my photography hobby, I reach for my camera gear for some of the same reasons you mention (focus on subject vs. phone handling). A phone camera is great for many spontaneous situations, but for me, the ergonomics will never come close to an actual camera even with attachments like this one. That’s not even taking into account the fact you are already carrying an extra piece of gear.

We've all seen this kind of thing before. This is the typical kind of gadget that gets hyped up amongst a company's well paid execs without any grasp of the role price and demand realistically plays for the vast majority of their intended customer base.

The cost of the product combined with the subscription model means this thing will not sell. It will get discontinued in a year or two. A big waste of time and money for everyone involved.
