Lens Baby - what exactly is it?

I know it's a unique lens of some sort; but I don't quite grok what it's used for. Anyone able to enlighten me?

I really like some of samples they have in their gallery, but it would take me decades of experimenting to try to get those results.

I hadn't seen the Wikipedia article, thanks. I'd seen the other page, but as you note it doesn't really explain anything. 🙂

I don't often go to Wikipedia because, in the past, my experience has been that the accuracy of their information is quite variable. Unless you're looking up information regarding Anime - then it's a treasure trove. 😀
