I currently have my iTunes .xml and other databases on my Mac mini. However, my actual music files are on an external drive. I would like everything on the external drive.

However, try as I might, I cannot open my iTunes library files when they are on my external drive. If I start iTunes holding down the alt key, I cannot select the library files on the external drive because they are greyed out and cannot be selected. The exact same file when copied to my Mac mini works fine.

Any ideas why the library files are greyed out when accessed on an external drive? It is formatted in the mac file system (journaled). Please help!

ive got my my itunes library on a second partition. you should really have the itunes library folder together with your itunes music folder on the external.

i created a new itunes library on my desktop using the alt method and then closed itunes and chose the library on the second partition. the itunes library.mxl is greyed out for me too but have u tried selecting the itunes library data file which has no extension and an itunes document icon?

if this doesn't work try and select the whole itunes library folder. also check your library location in itunes prefs. is it directed to your itunes music library on the externaL?

I got the same problem....I'm using PCI NAS-01G, it is working very well in Tiger but after I upgraded to Leopard, it always disappear no matter what I'm doing, it make me crazy coz all my photos, iTune Library is located in my NAS....finally I had restored Tiger.
