Sorry to revive a dead thread, but I recently took advantage of the back-to-school free iPod offer and picked up a 2.4GHz white Macbook. I've updated to 10.5.3 and everything runs pretty zippy.... But I'm very concerned with the choppy graphics.

Side-by-side with my wife's first-gen 1.83GHz Core Duo Macbook (with a GMA 950) I am noticing that animations such as expose, stacks, genie effect, and the dashboard are much smoother and have many more frames than on my 2.4GHz Macbook, even with only a couple windows open.

I thought my system may have had a problem so I went to the Apple Store and checked out their display models. Every Macbook and Macbook Air has what I would consider choppy animations, even compared to that first-gen Macbook.

Those who think their animations are fine are most likely not aware that they are not fine or don't care. I'm sure it is a driver issue, I'm just upset that it has not been fixed yet.

I'm also having the same problem. I purchased a new Macbook (2.4 Ghz white, 4 Gb of ram) about a month ago and have noticed the really choppy leopard graphics espeically in the dock, expose, and spaces.

I'm comparing the new macbook to a 1.83 Ghz Mac Mini I have thats running Leopard with a GMA 950. My mini is very smooth, dock and expose look great on my 20" LCD! However on my macbook, the graphics are choppy both on the build in screen and on my LCD. This doesn't make sense to me as the Macbook is significantly faster, and its GMA X3100 is supposed to be better than the GMA 950, yet the graphics are worse.

I've also looked at other Macbooks on display, and they exhibit the same issues.

Could it be a driver problem with the X3100?

Well, I've sold off my 2.4 GHz Macbook with crappy X3100 graphics. I hope the new Macbooks that come out on Tuesday have something that can at least smoothly display the Leopard GUI. I don't play games and I prefer longer batter life (and less heat), so integrated graphics do not really bother me. But there must be something seriously wrong with the X3100 (and I don't think it is drivers) to make expose, the dock, genie effects, spinning wheel, etc. look so choppy and awful.. Especially compared to the older GMA 950! And sadly they use this thing on the expensive Air as well!

i have the same problem, both macbook´s have 2GB RAM and the x3100 looks much slowler with dock, expose as the 950M.

is this normal?
