You haven't read the part where I said it was the best with Iobits Startmenu 8 installed.

Ahh well if you've fixed the navigation system, that would make a big difference. Suppose it would behave like 7 then, with all the advantages of 8. That might be good alight.

I used my C2D iMac to install it on a partition, on my 2011 MBP, then I booted the iMac to that partition, and updated to 10.6.6.

Yeah,
that's one way. I also could put the 2,5" SSD into a FW enclosure and use some of the older machines in the household. But - call me old fashioned - I like to have an installation medium for every OS I have...

RGDS,

Well, yeah. Linux in my case is not an option. It just doesn't have the tools available.

Not only that, watching youtube videos is not very easy. With Leopard you can at least use HTML5, which is not that bad.

Overall, the apps I need I have 'em, such as Adobe GoLive, Photoshop CS3, Photoshop Elements, Komodo IDE (for programming) and etc. I want to stick with Leopard/PPC as long as I can...

What version of Elements do you have running on your system? What about PS CS3? the people @ Adobe are less than friendly/knowledgeable about the older versions of these software suites and their off-shore tech support is barely able to understand English. Three phone calls to them asking about which version of PhotoShop and/or Elements runs under Leopard have all yielded almost unimaginably incoherent resposes (both verbally AND via e-mail.)

Linux us better on any computer. I use Linux on PowerPC, AMD, and intell.

This is pure user preference. All of my servers run Linux (a few of those linux boxes also virtualize windows server / OS X server). But i probably wouldn't use it for my main OS. OS X , which can be limiting at times, wont let me brick my OS install very easily. But in linux an accidental "rm -r /etc" as root would put you in a bad spot.

Although certainly OS X may not be everyones main choice, but it works for me. I just prefer the fact that it always works with no down time, which lets me focus more on my work rather than my OS.

Yeah, it's so annoying when that happens, I swear I meant to type vim ~/.ssh/sshd_config but my fingers must be too fat, it came out as sudo rm -rf / ;)

RHEL based distributions are nice in asking the user if they really want to delete the file or not by default, but many do not take advantage of this.

For instance if you wanted to delete a directory within etc (maybe you got uninstalled a package and forgot to purge the config files) and accidentally put a space after etc (rm -r /etc /program) you would need to reinstall. It can be possible to majorly screw up by accidentally hitting an extra key.

Of course this all assumes your logged in as root and don't look over your terminal commands before executing them.

I believe the last PPC version of Elements was 6.

The early versions of Mac OS X were terrible. Random crashes, beach ball of death, buggy, and overall slow. It did have good looks though.

It took Apple a long time, but they finally did good with Tiger.

Leopard doesn't run as well on older hardware, but it does have good features that makes upgrading worthwhile. For an OS that is nearly 7 years old, Leopard looks modern.

Now Snow Leopard is definitely Apple's crowning achievement when it comes to Mac OS X.

I never tried Lion but judging from all the early on complaints it wasn't worth it and it's still not worth it now. It's basically a step backwards in performance. Also the removing of a feature like 'Save As' was just dumb...

Mountain Lion is the improved Lion, just like Snow Leopard was to Leopard.

Amen Brother.
Couldn't agree more with the above startement.
It's been all downhill since.

All my Power PC's are running happily and stable on 10.5.8
IMHO was and is still a great OSX, aside from the lack of support,
but there's no respect for the classics in tech land...

You are talking about OS X 10.5 Leopard, but he was talking about 10.6 Snow Leopard :D just saying

Meant the first part of my statement in agreement how great 10.6.8
is running my intel machines (see my sig) esp. compared to ML.

And the fact that 10.5.8 keeps my PowerPC's happy.

I should have been clearer.

I'm a bit torn on the matter myself. I used to adamantly proclaim Tiger was the end-all-be-all of OS X releases. Now that I've used Snow Leopard for a fair bit of time, I'm grown quite fond of it; but I'm still not convinced that it's an all-around better OS. Tiger just has this look, this feel; a simplicity and intuitiveness that seemingly cannot be matched.

I love the modern tasks Snow Leopard allows me to do, but every time I go to my eMac for something, it's almost as if using Tiger is like a warm welcome home. :)
