what program do you use for tasks such as defrag, clean cache, disk check etc? Coming from winxp there were always these things i needed to do to keep my pc snappy. Not sure what to do for os x. Ive downloaded onyx but have not used it yet

None, OS X runs scripts that do that every once in a while.

You can use Onyx to force it run the scripts, but it isn't needed.

Yet another reason why I love OSX over Windows. It is so much more user-friendly in that you don't have to remember to run these tasks... ever.

Im having a hard time getting used to a computer that doesnt get a scattered hard drive after a torrent or a virus and spyware. Not that I'm complaining, don't get me wrong I love an os that takes care of itself.

I've never "defragged" any of my Macs. The only time I've found myself reformatting my Macs is when I'm selling them.

I would format my pc once a month and defrag like every other day... a nice change this os x is.

I use a PC at work and I've haven't reformatted it for the year that I've had it. Maybe you've just had bad luck with them.

No, I just downloaded lots of torrents and went on a few too many spyware infested sites. DVD shrink was another program i used quite a bit which I believe was bad on the HDs. I actually think i ruined a hard drive from torrents, it could not be formatted to save it..
