Oh, but OS X 10.7 will only be out 2 years after that, you better wait for it instead - I'm sure it will make 10.6 look old and antiquated... :p :D

Well that is sort of true, but 10.8 will probably be bigger than 10.5, 10.6 and 10.8 combined. I'm starting to think I'll wait too. I may go back to panther come to think of it. Tiger was way too big for me. ;)

Personally, I'm holding out for OS 11 which will be 100% mutli-touch. The whole Mac line will just move to multi-touch displays, getting rid of keyboards and mice as well, it'll be great...

just wait for the microsoft surface. :)

http://www.microsoft.com/surface/

one of the most intuitive idea's MS has ever created.

also i want to note that i much prefer using windows 2000 over xp or vista. :) and i am still on the fence whether or not to upgrade to 10.5 as well.

Could someone give examples of apps that people commonly want that the new versions of which might not be available to Tiger users?

Apple sped up production on Leopard to try to preempt Vista but failed to do so. In fact, I remember some features of Tiger (like Spotlight) were made to preempt Vista as well. Now that it'll be ten years before MS produces anything new whatsoever, Apple can take their time with the next OS. Not five years like someone else said, but not one and a half years.

As far as passing up on Leopard, it really depends on what you need. If you don't need the latest builds to stay compatible with some of the newest softare and you don't need the new features of Leopard, then there's no need to update. If it's a cost thing, then there's really no reason to spend the money if you don't want.
