How long after Apple releases 10.5.2 would you suspect all of their computers will be shipping with it preloaded?

I'd expect it to happen as soon as they run out of previous-version-imaged hard disks. A few days?

Of course, it's a relatively trivial thing to upgrade, so I doubt this'll be much of an issue.

That is, unless the Mac Pros need to have it for the 8800GT (in that case, it could be shipping around the date I anticipated... see my sig for more details). :D

I think the drivers are already there in 10.5.1, under

/System/Library/Extensions/GeForce8xxxGLDriver.bundle

10.5.0 shipped with GMA X3100 drivers and 10.5.1 updated them.

And 10.5.2 probably updated them some more. It's true that nVidia has publicly stated they were working on the SW for the MacPro, and where do you think Apple is most likely to hide them? I suspect the 8800GT to come out next week.

So nVidia are writing the drivers? Don't apple normally do this?

That's the thing... in nVidia's statement it almost certainly sounded like they were working on it to get it done. From Steve Jobs one liner email, it sounds like they're working on it too. Step away and it just seems that they are all working on getting it done just right.

The final line... I just want my 8800, man...

Actually, it'd be a shared effort between Apple and nVidia, with nVidia doing most of the work (it is their hardware). Typically, both parties share portions of source code under a non-disclosure agreement (I read an interview with one of ATI's project managers, where he discussed the working arrangment with Apple for driver development).

I know, I just have it in my head that for some reason the assembly line workers will get into a better groove and work out production kinks after 10.5.2 is released. I know this is a foolish assumption, but it feels like the first batch was slapped together to make a release date and I want to minimize the risk of ending up with lemon like some people here have (like Darthraige).
