That's true. The backup feature is a nice feature. I wonder how much extra HD space that will take up. The spaces feature has been around for a while though. They've done something a little different with it, though.

From Apple.com:
As you make changes, Time Machine only backs up what changes, all the while maintaining a comprehensive layout of your system. That way, Time Machine minimizes the space required on your backup device. Since backups are stored on your device by date, you can browse through your entire system as it appeared on any date. And that’s what makes Time Machine different from any backup application you’ve ever tried.

So I guess it won't require so much space.

Exactly.

You would have a hard time comparing

Except, in Microsoft's defense, they have only had 5 years since then to get things all polished.

You realize that Spring '07 is 7-9 months away. That's forever. I don't want to wait that long for Leopard to be released. Sheesh.

Ask your local MS Windows user about waiting if you want to know the real definition of forever. 7-9 months is a hell of lot better than 7-9 years.

Considering that the features they demonstrated today seemed to be reasonably stable, it wouldn't take them 7-9 months to fix all the glitches... They're definately working on something bigger.

Closed captioning
QuickTime currently supports closed captioning by including a text track alongside audio and video content. But improved QuickTime support will automatically display the CEA-608 closed captioning text standard in analog broadcasts in the U.S.

I would think that would imply that they may be looking at Television support.

It's not that big a change; doesn't appear to be anything you can't do with third party programs (unlike tiger)
Yeah Dashboard (Konfabulator) and Spotlight (Quicksilver) weren't like that at all ...

But seriously, the best thing Apple does is innovation. Innovation is improving an idea, not comign up with new ones. For instance, Time Machine is not a new idea, but it puts it in a new perpective (literally!) for users who are new to that kind of thing.

Say all you want about Leopard, but I want Spaces, not some mach-inject hack like Virtue.

Too Right. I guess we can't complain on that aspect. But still. I can't wait to get it.

I am very excited.

What we saw today is about more in terms of new usable functions than we saw with Tiger.

And you just know the Top Secret stuff has some awesome things in it.

I think this is just the tip of the iceberg. Now that Vista is delayed until at least the summer--don't believe what the MS execs are saying...the news is coming soon--Apple was smart to keep a lot hidden until MWSF.

The only third party product I want to see gobbled up and given the Apple treatment is EyeTV, with it made truly a part of FrontRow.
and maybe parts of Adium and aMSN put into iChat (basically the MSN integration..)

True HTPC here we come! Good thinking. :)

I can't wait for Leopard, personally...I think all of the features I saw are amazing (wasn't that blown away by the stand-alone spotlight search tool or w/e that was)

I think Time Machine is an amazing concept (and obviously so did the crowd with their "oohs!"

The new iChat features are always welcome...for what I can see Apple did it right with their rendition of tabbed browsing and of course the "backdrops" feature looks like alot of fun.

After seeing Steve show off Mail, that and that alone persuaded me to link my Mail account with my Gmail account ("Notes" is a great idea IMO...something so simple but essential to many)

Like many of you I want to know what Bootcamp 1.0, the "all-new" Front Row, and "all-new" Photobooth will feature....

Jobs cleverly didn't show off all of Leopard's new features for whatever reason...they weren't finished with them, they didn't want MS to "photocopy" them, or they want the world (primarily the MacHeads) to be thirsty for more.

Great keynote, great OS

Hopefully Steve is just on a diet and he is losing his weight by choice rather than sickness.
