from what i gather from the mac pro forum .. the apple raid card is overpriced and speed limited
Having just bought it with my new 8-core Mac Pro, let me give you a few things:
1. Very expensive, which wouldn't be so bad except for the rest of this list
2. Terrible, inflexible management software
3. No monitoring software
4. No obvious benefit over software RAID
5. Very little in the way of technical information on Apple's site
