It would be great if more free speech was permitted on the site. People get banned for jokes now...

Could you guys try a month of only removing spam and legally actionable speech (death threats / stuff the FBI would be interested in)?

The thing is is that you can make all the posts you want to. Whether or not those posts run afowl of the rules is for the mods to decide. I think making exemptions opens up a whole can of worms the mods shouldn't have to deal with.

What does it take to get suspended as I’ve seen a handful of folks show as suspended then they are back. Is it 1) deleted post 2) deleted post and warning 3) temp suspension 4) permanent suspension? I find this place to be fairly lenient as well, but somewhat erratic in terms of applying the rules. I recently had a post that was deleted due to “off topic” but a post five prior to mine literally started “I know this is off topic, but…” and was left untouched. lol I think it might just be due to the volume of posts and handful of mods not being able to get to everything.

I used to frequent a forum that had a section that was completely unmoderated. It was interesting to see what people will post when you combine anonymity with lack of accountability. That ain't gonna happen here. It doesn't happen there anymore either.

That said I have had posts deleted here, and then seen threads on the same topic go for pages. Whatever. It's their house, and we have to play by their rules or go to band camp.

I was banned for literally making a gun anology to security updates "great if you never have to use it" and got banned for political posting despite zero advocation either way purely I posted an anology.

The mods (one specifically) hand out bans like candy instead of just deleting your post), its pretty annoying.
