9 AM here in Europe. Should be easy to wake up in time, but I‘ll probably lose valuable seconds staring at my favourites and finally deciding on silver vs space grey, lol.

im buying one of each and will decide later. I want to see and use them in person before making that decision, as once you choose there's no way you'll be able to exchange it and get one right away. Even though it's just a color it does matter to me. I saw the space grey iphone 8+ the other day at the Apple store and i think its hideous/junk. To me, it looked absolutely horrible, which immediately made me decide to buy the silver iphone. But after seeing some videos and pictures of the X space grey, it looks like a different, lighter shade of grey which is really nice. So now i'm confused as well.

I agree, the „it’s just a colour“ talking point makes no sense to me at all. The colour is an important aspect of the design and the design is an important aspect of my buying decision, especially as I always go caseless. I thought about buying both as well, but it seems a little excessive to me. It would indeed help to know if the space grey and silver on the X are identical to the 8 colours, but sadly none of the myriad video bloggers at the Apple event hands-on bothered to film the models side by side AFAIK. There is a picture of the back of the silver models where the X looks a shade darker, but that‘s all I could find. Personally, I think the space grey 8 looks ok in an understated kind of way and will look lighter/darker depending on lighting conditions, but it‘s also really hard to tell from the videos how light/dark the stainless steel sides on the space grey X will look while it is quite easy to picture the pure stainless sides of the silver X.

There are a lot of HD videos from the keynote event that show the colors of both phones. I've come to realize that it is highly likely that the space grey and silver color tones for iphone 8 are different than the space grey and silver color tones of the iphone X. Even if you look at the pictures on the website, the colors are distinctively different.
I know buying both is excessive, but honestly i don't feel like taking such a chance. I'd hate to buy one and then realize i want the other after seeing it in person; especially when i just spent $1,500 and can't easily change the color.

I'm in the same boat...I'm buying 4 for the family, but I will decide my color after I go to store and see the phone for myself.

True, a lot of videos show both phones, but none (?) side by side. That would make a comparison so much easier.
I did‘t even bother to look there as I prefer real life pictures, but you‘re right that it is at least an indication that the colours won‘t be identical. Nice catch! FWIW both X colours look a shade darker to me on apple.com.

I’m going to bed early tonight after I put the kids to bed and set my Apple Watch and Fitbit alarms to wake me up at 2:30am EST to get my iPhone, laptop and iPad booted and ready.
Off topic, but I slept for the release of the 6 and my alarm for 11:45pm PST didn’t go off or I slept through it. Luckily for me, that was the year they had preordering problems and not many people could preorder for hours. I ordered at 3:30am PST when I woke up for school and got it a week only after the official release 😀

We are all well aware of that. We are all well aware that there are more important things to worry about. I came to this forum to find people who are just as ridiculous about Apple products as myself. I REALIZE it’s ridiculous and unnecessary to upgrade every year and do things like stay up to wait for a phone or any Apple electronic at that. Thank you.

As a fellow PSU grad, I'm losing more sleep thinking about this Saturday's matchup against Ohio St. than preordering the X. 😀
I have to work till 5 at my main job, go into my part time job from 8pm-12:30am so I’ll stay up and sleep after I get my order in at 2am.

Haha, me too. We should beat them if we play like we did against Michigan. I took tomorrow off of work so I can sleep after I pre-order, but probably won't then probably not sleep again Friday night worrying about the game on Saturday. 😀

Went with silver in the end plus a taupe leather case. In-store pick-up on November 3. Can‘t wait. 😀
