Apple sets expectations as well as any company ever. If it wasn't going to happen they would have leaked it weeks ago. There would have been a WSJ article citing "sources from within Apple" and a headline that read:
"Fingerprint sensors not likely for next iPhone, sources say"
They wouldn't let it linger and risk articles being written about how disappointing it is that it's not there.
