Yeah, I'm pretty much set on a 2.4 Alu I think. :p The whitebook is alright in specs, but the ugly plastic is a real turn off. It's a rather ugly machine, and call me pretentious or whatever, but that's a big deal to me. I've came from plastic junky PCs, I don't want to walk down that road again. (Plus, multi-touch trackpad please!)

So yeah, thanks haha!

How about a budget? Are you set on that yet? :p

We can probably pick out some pretty cool stuff, but if the total value is outside of your budget, then the combination of products we suggest is outside of consideration, no?

Also, an MBA can be a main machine, but only Rev. B, in my opinion. It'll run as good as a MacBook, even with an external LCD.

Budget is detailed vaguely above. :p

MBA is alright, but the fact of the matter is that I can get the high end MB dr four hundred dollars cheaper than the low end MBA. Sounds simple enough to me.

I have a different viewpoint about the chair. Skip the Staples or Ikea chairs and get the best you can afford. Those chairs are overpriced junk. Go to an office furniture store and compare. Wiggle the armrests and look how they are made. You will see what I mean.

Trust me, when you have been sitting for hours while working on a project or or even just playing a game, a comfortable chair can make a huge difference.

I vote No for the Griffin Elevator. Do you really need it?

Spend the extra $$$ for an extra backup external drive. Redundant backups are always a good idea. Keep it off-site (at a relative's house, maybe) so that in the event of fire, theft, or whatever, you can still have your data.

I can certainly recommend the Time Capsule. I have one and it is a great way of knowing that all the data on your laptop is backed up without worrying about plugging it back in. It lets me sleep at night.

I saw another poster comment on not buying a chair from a chain store. I would definitely agree with this. You get what you pay for. While we are on the subject of furniture, a good desk is a must. Once again stay away from Staples. Go to an unfinished furniture store and get a solid piece of wood. You will have it for many years to come.

I have a Cannon MP620 that I really like. It works great wirelessly and even scans over wireless. Just keep in mind you will need to knock your Time Capsule down to 802.11g if thats the only router you have. But anyways, I've had the printer a few months now and it seems to be a pretty good all-in-one for a reasonable price.

Hope I have provided some help!

So, I'm going to create a Mac Setup in my room, where I can have my laptop but a nice setup for when I may need a larger screen, or just want to sit down for some school work.

What do you recommend I have for this setup? What are the ESSENTIALS?

I'm thinking:

- MacBook (obviously)
- 24" external (obviously)
- Griffin Elevator (can anyone recommend it?)
- Speakers
- 500GB Time Capsule
- Printer
- Chair (recommendations?)
- Keyboard
- Mouse + pad
- iPhone Dock

Anything else?

Thanks for the help, guys. :)
I have bose computer speakers Companion 2's and they are very nice~ 100 USD.
laptop cooler
usb port
I like HP printers, the photosmarts are very good and reliable. You may want to get the wireless one, or just ehternet it into your time capsules.

Have fun.

The matching Cinema Display for the unibody MacBooks is phenomenal, if you're willing to spend the money (which you can do by saving elsewhere). The Elevator is really unnecessary, and is purely an aesthetic choice; granted it elevates the MacBook to be at a relative eye-level with your external monitor, but I generally run my external in clamshell mode, as I find very little benefit in extending my desktop these days -- although I used to use dual monitors for my workflow, I found the advent of 24" monitors running at 1920x1200 resolution negates the need.

If you decide to go with the Cinema Display you can save your cash when it comes to speakers; the Cinema Display speakers are more than adequate for almost everything, save playing music at louder volumes, where the integrated speakers begin to show their limitations.

I'd pass on the Time Capsule and save your money (applying it to the Cinema Display -- a recurring theme in this recommendation), going with a WD, Seagate or other comparable external (wired) drive for storage. Most individuals will already have a wireless router, and many of the other benefits of the Time Capsule can be achieved elsewhere -- save the wireless backup, which I find is more a novelty than anything else.

Printers are a dime a dozen, and generally speaking, unless you're in need of a widebed, high resolution printer for professional work, you can find a decent printer on the cheap that will suit your needs. Basically, anything that prints a decent amount of pages-per-minute black, which includes cartridges out of the box will suffice.

Chairs are subjective. I spent over a grand on a professional-level chair during the peak of my audio career, and found the cheap microfiber chair I picked up from Staples a year later was much more to my liking. Go to your local B&M, sit, and make your choice.

I will recommend a keyboard and mouse with some irony, as I'm currently looking for recommendations for the same myself: grab either the wired or wireless Apple keyboard, both being great typing solutions -- the caveat being that the former is relatively flat, and some folks prefer an angled keyboard for comfort; I firmly recommend the MX Revolution, a mouse I own myself and would use with my Mac if I weren't currently looking for a wired mouse for my particular situation.

As for the Dock, I say save your money here too. The key to iPhone happiness is in finding the right case, and many cases make it a chore to dock your iPhone, constantly removing and replacing the case when necessary. There are a few cases out there which allow you to use a Dock as well -- the current inCase I'm using has a bottom which slides off for convenience -- although I've found I'm much more inclined to simply plug in the phone, rather than fumbling around trying to remove the bottom of the case simply so it looks snazzy next to my other pricey hardware.

Hope this helps, and sorry for the wall of text...

I'm thinking:

- MacBook (obviously)
- 24" external (obviously) The HP displays looks real nice, and I will likely get the 22" version. They are hundreds of dollars less than Apple, and look amazing. They rotate, move up/down, etc. for a good viewing angle.
- Griffin Elevator (can anyone recommend it?) Personally I think it is unnecessary, unless you find one for dirt cheap.
- Speakers Go for the Logitech Z-2300. I have and swear by them. SUPER loud if needed, sound amazing, and are relatively compact and good-looking.
- 500GB Time Capsule Over-rated, IMO. I would just go for a normal router and a USB HDD. But that's me. I'm no fanboy.
- Printer Canon's are great. I have the MP600 and it is wonderful, photos look great and it is FAST. There are 2-3 new generations out since I got it though...
- Chair (recommendations?) Nothing specific. Just try a bunch out.
- Keyboard - Apple USB keyboard. I love having the number pad and it is dead sexy (plus I love the chiclet keys)
- Mouse + pad +1 to the MX Revolution. It is wonderful. Buy online, though, stores are $$$ Pads are unnecessary. If you really want one, get something cheap.
- iPhone Dock No comment.

Anything else?

Thanks for the help, guys. :)

I use a b50 lank DVD spindle thingy as my stand. Kind of dodgy but all I wanted was the lift the level of the display while it's next to my ACD.
