Lets discuss some ways to update to iOS 11. Will you be doing OTA? How about starting fresh and putting your phone into dfu mode then reinstalling all new apps. Whats the best way?

Plan to update all my 5s, 6+, 6s+ via OTA. So that I can do all of them at the same time, and no need to worry about the cables, very low chance but possible iTunes crash (it's a very new iTunes indeed, I didn't test it's stability yet), or computer hang (my Mac basically running 24/7 100% CPU stress now, not too hard to get some error and cause instability).

I'll be doing a fresh install...but not until tomorrow as I'm working later.

I typically do OTA updates, but for major versions will typically install via iTunes if I can. Note that this isn’t a clean install, but downloads the full install image (not a delta). I myself am no expert at the intricate differences between the two, but from what I’ve gathered, iTunes provides a cleaner update.

What's the best way to do a clean install of iOS 11?

iTunes -> restore iOS -> setup as new iPhone.

I know I can option + click the Restore button to manually select an IPSW file.

But, what happens if I just click it when my phone is on iOS 10 and there's an iOS 11 IPSW file in iTunes library folder? Will it do a clean install of iOS 11 or try to download iOS 10?

Is there an actual benefit updating via iTunes vs OTA?

For one single iPhone, I really don't believe there is any benefit (assume everything is normal). However, if you have multiple same model iPhone, do it via iTunes save you from multiple download.

Always the most up to date official release if you didi't choose the IPSW file by yourself.
