Just wondering what the general consensus would be, and if it's even possible.

Instead of having multiple pages in threads, why not eliminate page numbers, have all the posts visible by scrolling, and have each post have a number in case a certain post needs to be refered to?

To eliminate the issue of huge loading times, why not have it automatically load a certain number of posts ahead of the one you are at as you scroll?

A good example of this is lookbook.nu

This would make it easier to browse on computers, but especially iPads.

Some of these threads get incredibly long. That would mean larger wait times when replying to a thread, and increased server load. And slower loading times because of the adding images (avatars). Could you imagine trying to scroll to a certain point? That'd be torture. At least with page numbers you could remember "Its about half way down page 4".

As a good work-around, you can set it to show 100 posts at a time in your usercp.

This will put a strain on the servers, and will probably never be considered in the near future. Best you can do is enable the 40 post per page option.

Wow, even I didn't know about that :p (I've had it on 40 for years but didn't know that 100 is available now).

You can get extensions for most browsers that will allow a continuous scroll
FWIW, I used one for a while and I have disabled mine

I agree. I had one and it didn't recognize new posts were being read so I sacked it off.

+1 I'd prefer page numbers. I don't like sites that have one long page that adds to the bottom when you scroll down the page - you never know how long the page actually is.
