I had issues with the keyboard (2016 model). They replaced the top case. Then 6 months later, the battery goes to **** (under 80% at 250 cycles). They replaced the top case (which includes the battery) again. After that last top case replacement I got screen issues, so I have another Apple store visit coming up I guess..

Considering how there are like 10 lawsuits against Apple regarding their new butterfly keyboards, it's safe to say there's something really wrong with the keyboards and that it's a big issue that may bite them Apple in the A.

I am really trying to figure out if this is blown out of proportion or if this is really an issue.

I have made a poll so we can see who has a 2017 macbook / macbook pro with issues. I went ahead and added 2016 as well.

I keep reading and reading and i keep getting both sides of the story. I do believe people are having failure rates on the keyboards, but i also feel its people who do not own the machine and are complaining about the issue.

Because we NEED another thread about this.

There is not 10 . your math is very wrong

Last Friday night I took my 2016 13" TB to the Apple store for its THIRD keyboard/top case replacement in the last 12 months. The Genius was obviously working off a script, insisting on taking it away to "blow out the keyboard" after I'd told him I'd done it a dozen times already--before returning and having me demonstrate that his little exercise did nothing to alleviate the problem. He was not willing to even discuss an outright replacement--even though my husband's was completely replaced when hitting its third replacement. No, it had to be sent out AGAIN for repair. So glad I got AppleCare, but am I going to have to go through this every 4-6 months until that Apple Care runs out?

I love everything else about this machine EXCEPT for the keyboard. Having to go back to my old 2010 MBR only reinforces that. But at least its keyboard WORKS.

Had issues with both MB and MB Pro. On Mb the down cursor key stopped working and then within a few weeks the b key on the pro started producing double letters on a keypress. The enter key was working but there was very little travel compared to the other keys. Apple states they replaced both keyboards, on the MBPro the 'new' keyboard enter key felt exactly like the old key.

I picked up the 'repaired' MBPro 48hrs ago and just had the enter key fail on the 'new' keyboard, it made a pop sound and has very little travel compared to the others. Phoned AppleCare to complain as I don't believe the keyboard was changed as they stated.

I hate to break it to you, but the sample size of MacRumors is too small to make a determination that its being blown out of proportion. We've had similar threads and they all boil down to some people experience a problem, others refuting that its widespread and others like myself who observe what's being posted and form an opinion even if they're not an owner. Finally this thread will devolve into bickering because the keyboard issue is such a divisive issue.

Ha! That is the funniest thing I've read today. Granted, it is still early . . .

But that's not how Apple works when there is a problem with something it sells or sold. Deny, delay, blame the user - those are what Apple do.

I had one of the early 2008 MBPs w/ Nvidia 8600 GPU that had a fatal design flaw. After some bad PR and legal wrangling Apple extended the warranty to 4 years from purchase date. My machine did capitulate/was fixed under this policy.

The Apple store is very sorry you are experiencing diffultulties with your mAc.
They assure you how frustrating that can be.

Ahhhhhhhhhh.

Personally, you should get a new replacement.

Sent my 2016 15" MBP in for a SECOND top case replacement due to crappy keys repeating themselves. They replaced the top case with a 2017 version, hopefully things are better.
The keys are quieter and far more balanced.

Dropped my 2016 15" off last week for a new top case, was told they need to replace logic board as well. I'll see if the 2017 keys truly are better.

I got the 2017 top case too on the 2nd replacement. The space bar got stuck on like day 2, but it seems to have fixed itself..

i agree you kids complain too much, just vote with your wallet and buy a razer blade or something lol
LOL. Let me just throw this laptop I paid over 2000$ for in the garbage and buy something else - that'll show apple. They already got my money for this ****ing thing.

Now, if they would let me return this for 80% of its purchase value - I'd do it in a heartbeat.

It always starts off that way. Over time the keys get more squishy and odd feeling, until one of them craps out. I have a 2017 MBP that I bought in August 2017, and the spacebar was ****ed by March 2018. Had to get it replaced. Will likely sell this before my apple care finishes lol.
