My son is studying to become a professional musician. He needed some headphones for mixing tracks and we just got him some Shure SRH750 DJ headphones for $149 (Musician's friend or Guitar Center price). Shure has studio headphones available for $50 more but they don't sound any better. He likes his new SRH750s a lot. I tried them out and I agree they are great with excellent bass response. Beats are nice but they are somewhat overpriced. I would put these $150 Shure headphones above anything from Beats costing $399 or less.

Thanks for such a quick reply! You made me look them up and they look pretty comfortable, what would you say on a scale of 1-10? I guess I should have specified a little more, I am looking for two sets, a pair of noise-cancelling for travel something more on the expensive and high end side, and a pair of everyday use, like the ones you recommended.

So who has a pair of noise cancelling, high-end over-the-ear headphones they love?

Also, for the everyday use, I've been looking at the new AKG K550s, saw some good reviews online. Anyone have these/care to comment on them?

If you do a quick google search you will find that the best noise cancelling headphones are the Bose QC15s. They are comfortable and offer decent sound.
For home headphones I would recommend the Ath-m50s and a Fiio amp. I like the fiio e7 because of the built in usb dac.

I bought the Bose QC15's back in May before my trip to Ottawa, and they've changed my life. # Now I wear them while cooking, cleaning, brushing my teeth, all the time! Can't believe how noisy the world is until you put those babies on!
They don't cancel specific sounds, like talking, babies crying, etc. But they cut out the majority of humming (air plane low hum, fridge, air conditioners, neighbour's vaccum, etc). Also the new model has a iPhone-compatible cable (play/pause, volume up/down), a must-have for any headphones. And you can order extra parts from Bose if you need them.
Best $350 I've spent in a while. Highly recommend.

My vote also goes to the M50's. I have them in white and I think they look awesome but they also sound amazing for ~150 dollar headphones. I find them to be quite comfortable, even when worn for long periods of time.

Probably my only problem with them is, since I have the white ones and beats are just so friggin' popular where I live, many people (read: dre supporters) mistake them for white studios, but then I remember how much they overpaid for their headphones and I feel better and enjoy my music :p

Re:Let's talk about headphones...

Well, my head phones are not strong, what they are in starting...Currently I am using N72 Nokia phone...
