good things about square trade
----
3 year plans on iPhone
$75 deductible 4 claims max
you can mail in all computers to square for repair and not just laptops*
they are willing to cross ship you a new iPhone
full immersion in water.
only the iPhone has a deductible. they do not charge deductibles on other devices, like iPads. if you accidentally break a covered iPad, there is no deductible at all.
you can still go to the genius bar and have your item replaced
if an item cannot be repaired or replaced at all you are reimbursed the original purchase price of the unit.
you can get 30 % off coupons pretty easily for non iPhone plans. but sadly the 30 % off has $$ limit ($30 irrc)

Also with squaretrade, if you have a manufacturers issue in year two, they will charge you a $75 deductible, whereas with applecare/+ they will repair or issue a new phone for a manufacturers defect.

I'm looking at Safeware because they have lost/stolen coverage. SquareTrade doesn't and my insurance USAA doesn't cover it under VPP. My credit card through RBFCU, under the terms doesn't have anything about lost/stolen purchases.

USAA:
"Electronics, Smart Phones, Cells Phones, iPads, iPods, MP3 players, Gaming Systems, TVs and computers. The above items are covered by a homeowners or renters policy, for covered losses and subject to the home/renters deductible."

I called the agent and my deductible is $1000 so it's the same a purchasing a new phone. But if you have a deductible that's a certain percentage i.e. 2%, it might work out for you, but claiming something like this on your policy might affect it in the future.

I looked into AT&T's own insurance but can't find more good reviews than bad on the web.

I've already purchased AppleCare+ for the iPhone 6+ but the lost/stolen is what scares me since it's a $850 computer/phone.

From Safeware:

FAQ: What happens if I have a total loss (damaged beyond repair) or theft?

In the event of a total loss, we will need to see proof of ownership in order to validate the customer’s claim and issue a replacement. In the event of theft, the customer needs to provide a police report (filed within five days of the theft), proof of ownership, and a statement of events for validation.

Your total policy cost for 2 Years of coverage is $320.00.

Features
Covering: AT&T Apple iPhone 6 Plus 64GB ($850)
Total Coverage Amount: $850.00
Coverage Area: Domestic

2 Year Premium: $310.00
2 Year Municipal Tax: $0.00
2 Year State Tax: $0.00

Total Policy Cost: $320.00

320/24 = $13.33 a month...

Hope my education into this helps you decide.

Had a really bad experience with square trade. They refused to warranty my Sony tx20 "water proof" camera when it leaked. They said that it was Sony's problem, and Sony told me to pound sand.
