i am on a macbook pro
with lion
and logic 9.1.6
using a brand new sm58
with a brand new lead
thru a brand new lexicon alpha unit

logic doesn't seem to find any form of input - there is the most faint muffled sounding recording coming from the mic if i press record and shout down it - yet it sounds perfect coming from the lexicon unit into my headphones

and it's not a problem with the lexicon as you can see in my picture the laptop can see the signal how i am hearing it but logic has no volume

http://i39.tinypic.com/2yo6a6v.png

and yes my output input are both set to lexicon - buffer size 128

i am worried it's a problem with lion - as i had the problem with my friends digidesign mbox and i had to get the LATEST driver for it to work with lion but trying to find lexicon drivers on the world wide web is like trying to find sand in a waterfall

i have literally turned to stone today from how mind numbingly impossible it seems to solve something that is clearly a flick of a switch somewhere - it has also ruined a planned night of weekend recording

please send any thoughts/tips asap/PLEASE HELP MEEEE

thanks

ed

p.s i also cannot find any form of interface for the lexicon like a mixer e.t.c something i would of liked to of also checked even just so i could uninstall/reinstall it or something

For starters, I don't think the Lex has drivers, per se -- it's simply a USB compliant device (it's USB 1.1)

SM58s need a lot of gain. It's a dynamic mic. Try cranking the preamp on the Lex. Don't get confused hearing what's coming out of the Lex's headphone amp vs. what's making it into Logic.

PS -- D'oh: now that I've fully read your post and looked at the screenshot -- click the small 'I' icon next to the red record enable icon (the red R) on your track.

Also, the Alpha doesn't have mix front end software like Apogee's Maestro or RME's TotalMix (or whatever it's called).

nope pressing the i hasn't changed anything it's still insanely muffled and inaudible but now i can add effects like delay e.t.c - the i/o seems to think it is in surround sound for some reason

i/o
front left ????????
stereo out

my friends says it may be something to do with this

i have no idea why it thinks its in surround

http://i44.tinypic.com/2vw767s.png - not that changing the 5.1 one to stereo changed anything - so maybe not

i will be so happy if someone can solve this problem - it will be mindblowng

wish i knew how to uninstall lexicon so i can reinstall it - just to it least try it

i would just like to say - i have just realised i can make a new audio recording with quicktime player using my lexicon/setup - which i will use in the meantime - so it is officially a logic problem - please keep helping tho as it is a lot easier to record in logic than to record in quicktime and copy paste into logic

somehow i got it working but it's really buzzy and only in the right ear??

then i did some more stuff to it and now i've lost it again - i've no idea what i did

so carry on as you were
