I need to print from Mac OS9 to this Lexmark e260dn, but it seems that all software than can be downloaded from their site works only in Classic mode under OSX, while I need a solution to see the printer from Mac OS 9. The installer (which has an .app extension) does work under OS9, but then nothing shows up in the chooser. Is there any workaround to use this printer from Mac OS 9 directly? any experience?

The "E260dn_9.bin" file, yes? I would be amazed any browser in Mac OS 9 would be able to load the web page or download this file considering the Epson site uses HTTPS. How did you download the ".bin" file and how did you get the file onto the Mac OS 9 system?

Sneaker-net it to your 9.2 computer (LocalTalk, FireWire, etc.).

downloaded from a MacPro 5.1 Mojave, transferred to a G5 2.7x2 (incidentally modified to aircooling) and finally to a PBG3, all via ethernet. Incidentally the PBG3 prints fine to a LaseWriter 12/640 hooked up to the same network. Stuffit handles fine the .bin file.

These are the situations, from a PowerBook G4 running OS X 10.4.11 I can see the Lexmark, along with other AT printers, while from the PBG3 (this is a Wallstreet with the Bluechip processor at 500 MHz) running Mac OS 9.2.2 I can only see the Apple printers. The printer description files are correctly in the Preferences folder. What is missing?

tried everything on a series of different Macs from system 7 to os9.2.2: the printer, although set up as apple talk, is not seen by any mac running less than OSX, who knows?

SOLVED
You need to check the queue name from a Mac running osX and then create a desktop printer with Desktop Printer Utility and type the queue name and printer IP. Then it works

I have a 460dn, which I'd never thought of trying to print to from classic MacOS.... now I think with this in mind, I might just try!

Today I brought the Wallstreet to the university and could print also to modern Lexmark color multifunction printers. The interesting thing is that it bypasses the printer security and can print without any login and password
