Hi Guys,

My Macbook Pro from 2017 does not recognize the new LG 43UD79-B. I connected the display with a new Caldigit Thunderbolt 3 cable. My macbook does recognize that there is a display connected some how. But in system information I can only see that my MB is powered with only 7 watts.... Normally the display would power 60watts.

I can't find the solution and it would be great if you guys could help me out.

I will add a couple of screen shots so you can see what my MB does.

Thanks!

Did you ever resolve this issue? I have the same setup and the same problem. I just bought an OWC Thunderbolt 3 USB-C cable and the monitor doesn't see the connect.

I'm having a similar issue - my MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017) has been working fine via USB-C with my LG 43UD79-B for several months, however as soon as I upgraded from High Sierra to Mojave it no longer connects at all.

I've purchased a new USB-C cable: Belkin F2CD084bt0.5MBK Thunderbolt 3 USB-C to USB-C Cable, Thunderbolt Certified, 40 Gbps, 5 K, 100 W, Type C 3.1, 0.5 m - Black

to be sure that it wasn't an issue with the existing cable / data rate or length and the result is still the same.

The monitor is working fine with other input sources and will connect via HDMI as expected.

I contacted LG Support and they said they'd had no other reports of this and the fault must lie with Apple.

Has anyone else reading this thread with the same monitor and upgrade to Mojave experienced the same problem or does your setup work?

Hi,

Well I also have Mojave installed since last week.
The LG model I created this thread for is stationed at my work.
When I get there today I will give it a try.

I will come back to you.

Appreciate the reply @NielsO, as an update to this I ended up taking the monitor off it's stand and checking nothing was amiss with the USB-C port, whilst I had it there I blew some compressed air at it to ensure it was clear of any obstruction. Put it back on the stand plugged it all in and it connected and has been working fine ever since ‍♂️

Whether it was down to anything being in the port or simply pulling the power cable I don't know but I'm glad it's all working now, thanks for checking

Use a USB C 3.1 10Gbps cable. Worked for me. Thunderbolt 3 doesn’t seem to be supported...

Yup thunderbolt seems the problem. Forgot to answer to this thread. It's working for a couple of months now. Weird that a thunderbolt 3 cable (usb-c) won't work.
