Hi all,
I am considering buying the rather new LG 4K for a MBP 2018. Should I consider an alternative, is there something better out there to the price? Size should be 24-27'' and USB-c is a must. Thanks!
Morten

I assume you are referring to the LG Ultrafine 4K 24MD4KL-B.

As far as Thunderbolt 3 displays which are 4K or higher resolution. The LG is by far the cheapest I found.

As for USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C. It is still cheaper.

You can only find cheaper ones using USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type C. All the cheaper ones are also limited to laptop charging in the 60W to 65W range.

I'd just stick with the LG. It's a good display. It acts as a Thunderbolt 3 Dock with charging (85W), connections for other devices and daisy chaining. The only alternative I'd look at is the 5K model, LG 27MD5KL, as it is a nicer screen with an integrated webcam.

LG also offers a 5120x2160 34" ultrawide Thunderbolt display, LG 34BK95U-W. Although it doesn't appear to have a Thunderbolt output just input.

thanks for clarifying! Unfortunately, no Mac 13'' has the power GPU-wise to drive the LG 5K in my opinion. Lots of lagging, esp. when using fullscreen fusion desktop. So for now, I have to stick with the smaller 4K option.

I’ve used my previous 2018 and current 2020 MBP 13 i7 with both a 4K Dell Ultrasharp USB C and an LG Ultrafine 5K without any issues whatsoever.
