Hello, just got my new lg 5k 27", after calibration its a really good display. probably the best out there together with 5k imac.

Heres the problem

I personally find the native resolution 2560x1440 make everything look abit too small so im using 2048x1152 or 2304x1296 but everythings become a little more blurry than the native, its odd to me that even though 2048x1152 is given as an option in the system preferences it doesnt optimize the sharpness.

Technically i know this should be possible due to the monitor supporting 5k but also had the same issue with my older Thunderbolt Display but i managed to create a custom resolution (2048x1152) in switchresx which generated a crisp sharpness.

Anyone facing similar issue and/or know a solution to this?

It's probably because it is an uneven scaling factor. A 5120x2880 display would most suitably scale to "looks like" 2560x1440 (default) or 1280x720 (massive).

High Sierra also has some font smoothing bugs; it might be that you're noticing, especially at a non-default resolution.

Yeah i actually thought so too and it sounds logical. However I went to the apple store and noticed it ran sharp on a Mac Pro that only supports 4k :/

But I thought the demonstration Mac Pros ran at "looks like" 2560x1440 (i.e. the same scale as a 5K screen and which you say looks sharp) but that is produced from a 4K (3840x2160) resolution?

Or did you try a custom scaling factor in the store?

This has been a problem with monitors from day one. When the resolution of the signal is not the same as the screen, the monitor compensates by picking the nearest pixel, which is not accurate, hence image becomes fuzzy.
