If some MR fellows has some spare money to invest, I will be soon launching the first AR/VR detoxification clinic to people addicted to this new technology and refusing to live the "real life".

3Com came out with Audrey, almost. People were already talking about the next Audrey, and they killed it just as it was about to launch. Oops... There were some that made it to the public, and some were on ebay for the requisite huge price tag. Being a 3Com dealer, we'd gotten reports of its progress towards the day of release. Then a short statement that it was dead. But it was supposed to be 'earth shaking'. I guess the only shaking was the earth moving equipment in some western desert to bury the things...

i cant see aapl enter vr goggles market until a viable vr headset is released by a competitor. it also has to be adopted by public and popular for aapl to enter market for good profit margins. i have no reason to buy one

LG Display is preparing to supply micro-OLED display panels for Apple's second-generation mixed-reality headset, The Elec reports.

LG Display is currently believed to be ordering deposition equipment for micro-OLED displays from Sunic System. The company apparently plans to use the equipment to develop and manufacture a micro-OLED display panel for Apple's second-generation mixed-reality headset.

While LG Display is believed to be part of the supply chain for Apple's first-generation headset, it is not expected to provide its main display, with Sony said to be supplying the main micro-OLED display panel for the first-generation headset instead. LG Display is rumored to only provide regular OLED display panels for the device's outer "indicator" screen.

With the second-generation headset, LG hopes to take Apple's main micro-OLED display orders from Sony. This is also said to be in Apple's interests since Sony will indirectly compete with Apple's headset with its own PlayStation VR headsets.

Late last year, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple was already working on the second-generation version of its headset, aiming to offer a more lightweight design, an improved battery system, and better performance thanks to a faster processor. Kuo said that the shipment schedule for the second-generation headset resides in the second half of 2024, around two years after mass production on the first-generation model is rumored to begin.

Did I miss the first one?

While I’m interested in the headset, the glasses are really what I’m excited for. The 2024 date makes me sad

Vaporware rumors. Maybe they will do a simultaneous release along side the PowerBook G5.

Does anyone know if they headsets work well if you have vision problems? My right eye has bad vision.
I know that VR has been used to treat strabismus, diplopia, nystagmus, macular degeneration, achromatopsia, and stereoblindness before.

Ultimately it depends on your condition. It may not work well with VR, or it may be completely fine, or in the above cases, it may actually help. Probably best to try it out briefly if you can rather than buy into it and be stuck with it.

One other thing to note is that VR does work even if you are blind in one eye.

Are they purposefully making the first version bulky so they can ‘upgrade’ people with a 2nd gen? This can’t be a good tactic. It’s a rumor so who knows. You’d think Apple would just make a good product best it can.

It doesn't matter if you have vision problems. Check the video from The Verge on youtube titled "Exclusive: Intel's new smart glasses hands-on" from 2008.

Apple isn't the only company investing on AR glasses as the ultimate solution for the consumer's everyday needs of the future, so is Facebook, Snapchat, Intel, Samsung and Microsoft. These companies know that when the day comes if they don't nail this technology well they'll be out of business; nobody will be purchasing TVs, computers, smartphones.

This is a solid King of Rumor.

What happened to the 1st generation AR/VR headset? They’re not even out yet in the market. 🤦🏻‍♀️
We're all actually wearing them right now. They integrated so seamlessly into our lives that we totally forgot about buying them.

I did read that researchers were working on displays that could counter the more popular vision problems. Don't know how, but... I guess there is an eye drop now that can correct some forms of eyesight issues. How advanced we have become...

Good grief - I know this site is about rumors and speculation on future products - but Apple has yet to publicly announce the existence or even acknowledge the active development of any VR product let alone a second generation of a headset!
