iPhone got the retina with the 4th phone. iPad will get a high res screen with the 4th iPad?

I hope not, I'm really hoping for a higher res screen, after having an iPhone 4S every other screen I look at just looks like crap. I skipped iPad and iPad 2 so I'll probably get the third whatever it has :). I don't think it'll go quad core.

Higher refresh rate, more pixels

The iPad2 screen is atrocious compared to iPhone 4 for reading text, I agree.

However, doubling the pixels will likely make all apps run very slow. Perhaps they can just allow "upscaling" of current graphics intensive apps. It really won't look bad!

Then, just allow text to be rendered in more actual pixels. e.g. the complaint with iPad screen isn't usually that photos look grainy... it's that reading text is hard on the eyes.

I think upscaling graphics and only rendering text at a higher resolution might be a good compromise for performance and aesthetics.

One other thing that needs improvement is the refresh rate. I downloaded Bike Baron app and the ghosting on it is pretty bad. It's not even that fast of a game.

I can't get HDTV rips that are .mp4 with a 3mb bit rate to play on the ipad. I hope theres a massive gpu on the iPad 3 to push the screen and hopefully my TV rips.

Just wondering, have any of you sheep ever ordered a nice juicy steak at a restaurant. Told the server how you wanted it cooked. The steak turns out delicious, then you pat yourself on the back for such a perfectly cooked meal, all because you ordered it and said how you wanted it done? Really?

No, I complimented the waiter and the restaurant; though not the livestock company that raised the beef, although they may also have deserved credit.

Fixed your analogy for you. :)

I think in the end, the resolution of the iPad 3 will be something like 1280x960, mostly because it will be vastly easier to make, doesn't need outrageous GPU hardware and this resolution is good enough to display text at much better quality than the 1024x768 resolution of the iPad 1/2 currently.

Only in comparison to a true Retina Display. 1600x1200 is plenty for a 10" screen, and probably more feasible in consideration to the hardware.

I mean can you imagine how much raw GPU power it'd take to run some of the heavier iOS games, like Infinity Blade, at 2048 x 1536? A resolution that high would almost be a limiting factor for what could be done in regards to nicer, current gen 3D on the iPad. They'd have to stick to 1024x768 to keep a steady, playable framerate. Even 1600 x 1200 would be a bit of a tight fit.

It kinda makes me wonder what kind of hardware they're gonna have in the iPad 3. Whatever it is, it's gonna have to be pretty stout.

I doubt games would run at that resolution. They would probably just use upscaling via pixel doubling.

Same thing as running a game in 1280x800 on a cinema display.
