ALL Verizon phones require you to do pretty much everything through Verizon. Doesn't matter what features the phones have, Verizon disables them. And puts on that horrid freakin' interface.

looks im the only one...

I say go with the KRZR. I have had one for about 6 months now. Its a simple, slim good quality phone. If you want the basics, (calling, voicemail txt messaging.) with a sleek form factor and a familiar interface, you got it all here. Plus the battery life is good too. I still get about a weeks worth between charges. I love it.

I have the European version of the Chocolate. I've never had any problems with it.
The touchscreen isn't a pain for me or anything else. It plays any mp3, they don't need to be bought at a specific provider store.

The only thing that I don't like about it is that music can play on speaker, but I can not have a call on speaker.

You could always stay month to month and cancel your contract when the iPhone comes out later this year.

touch pad. not touch screen

I love my Sony Ericsson W810i. Maybe you should go with that.... Anyways, go with the KRZR. Also, might I suggest to spend some time reading Amazon reviews on both the LG Choc. and Moto KRZR.

I don't like sliding phones - sometimes they have the tendency to slide shut mid-call (or friends have the tendency to come up from behind and tap the top, sliding it shut mid-call).

My older sister has had horrid luck with motorola (She is on her 5th replacement) and my younger sister got a motorola, I played around with it a bit and I didn't like it much at all. I personally have a Samsung SGH-T509 and it gets the best reception out of all of the other mobile phones that my family has, the interface is the best IMO and it has a really cool thin design. I really like Samsung phones. But between the 2 the OP stated, if the motorola KRZR is like the other motorola phones that my family has had, I'd say go with the chocolate, but if you have the choice of a Samsung phone, I'd get that.

I'm not sure if it's too late to help, but i just received my ordered Moto KRZR today and i have to say it's an awesome phone. Besides being beautiful, i find the menus to be much improved over previous moto phones, it has great battery life, 2mp camera (k1, k1m is 1.3) and has just all around great features and is quite easy to use :)

what's the deal with the enV. Whats with the qwerty keyboard. Can you go on AIM, check mail go online like the sidekick?
i would get rid of my contract with verizon and wait for the iphone...

Actually, it's funny you say that because I actually can. My enV (all env's, in fact) have AIM built in, and I use either Mobile Web 2.0 or Wireless Sync Email to check my email, and I use Mobile Web for basic internet. And the phone cost me a grand total of 99 dollars. Can't say that about the iPhone.

Sure the iPhone is better, but it is so much more expensive I would take the enV any day if I were in the OP's situation. Whats with the qwerty keyboard? I love the keyboard, plus since it has physcial buttons, I can use them while playing 3D games like Brothers in Arms, Need for Speed Most Wanted, and about, say, 50 other games. Does the iPhone have that? And it has stereo speakers that go very loud. I could keep going, but it doesn't really matter to me because I am too happy with my phone to care.

Is it true internet or the fake internt......

With no 3G, safari is just as good as using a sidekick to browse the web.

My BlackBerry Pearl isn't 3G and speeds on EDGE are plenty fast enough for browsing the web.

Of course, you would expect something 3 times the price of my top of the line BB to have 3G. Just another reason why the iPhone is a joke.

Is it true internet or the fake internt......

Well, it is internet. Internet is defined as an international network providing email and information from computers. No one said anything about a browser. Safari isn't worth 400 dollars to me... not to mention the cost of a data plan.

Interesting. I got a Chocolate just yesterday (the burgundy one).

My girlfriend and I each got one (we had our "new every 2" come up as well). Hers is black, and is actually running the older revision of firmware. Mine is newer, and there are some major differences. Mine has much glossier menus, and seems to actually navigate faster, which seems odd. I found the UI performance to increase dramatically after turning off all the blasted beeping sounds for keypresses.
The touchpad buttons are strange, but I'm getting used to them.

No iSync support, which made me cry like a little girl (it would have made for a completely different experience).

The REAL story is my adventures with bluetooth. Not so good. I was able to get it to connect to my iBook, but the only bluetooth features available are Address sync and the ability to use the phone as a mobile modem. I was unable to move images, music, etc.. from compy to phone via Bluetooth in any way, shape, or form.
I was able to send vCards from Address Book on my iBook to the phone, which was neat at first. The "neat" quickly faded when I noticed: 1) I could only import one card at a time.. 2) several of the cards' data started bleeding into one another (ie: friends ending up with each others' phone numbers/email).
On the upside, I was able to cut some of my more distinct-sounding mp3s into little 20-sec clips and email them to my phone. Upon receiving the email (phone thinks it's a fancy TXT), it can set the mp3 as a ringtone. Might be old hat to some, but I was excited. I'm assuming the same trick can be used with photos.
Anyway, it's a decent phone. Totally hates my Mac (which is an unbecoming trait), but hopefully this will improve someday.

KRZR K1m or LG Choco (or LG 8600?)

I'm having the same dilemma - Verizon plan renewal coming up... I really just want a phone that works well as a phone, and as a music player. The key factor seems to be how easily it is to sync MUSIC from my mac. I don't want to download from Verizon's store, so I'm fighting their system either way.

It seems like the LG phones won't play AAC files, which might be a deal breaker there as I'd have to re-encode to MP3 - a big extra step.

(But one review said they ran into trouble with the KRZR K1m when used with AAC files from iTunes! And I have a friend whose MOTO SLVR would play AAC files, but would not sort them by artist/genre/album, he just got one big list of songs.)

It seems like none of these phones will sync music via USB, rather it will have to be "take the memory card out and put it into the card reader". This is another step I'd rather skip.

I do like that the chocolate is a slider phone.

It seems that neither come with stereo headphones or USB cables...

The LG 6800 has the same issues as the chocolate, does not seem to be rated any higher, but is a flip-phone, and costs more.

Anyone with experience getting music to sync on these phones from a mac? any suggestions on other phones that would solve these problems?

(I can't afford the iPhone, can't switch from Verizon right now. Maybe in 2 years the time will be right for that. Really wish Apple was also offering a low end iPhone that was just a phone with a music player that worked smoothly.)

Just let me add this...

STAY THE F AWAY FROM MOTOROLA! In the past few years I've owned a T710 and the RAZR. I was on a first name basis with Verizons customer service in the back of the store, I had 9(!!!!) T710s, they all broke or had some really annoying problem... I had 4 RAZRs. Their quality is absolute crap. I will never again buy any Motorola product.

I had a LG VX6000 and I loved that phone, I also am a big fan of Samsung phones.
