will this work in a 2009 mac pro, do you think it is better than the stock drive? Do I need any other drivers,

could somebody link me to some firmware that might be useful??

    As ever, thanks in advance

LG optical drives usually work. I wonder why you need one in your new Mac Pro. If I would buy a second or replacement drive I would buy an LG BD-Combo or writer. They are not terribly expensive and can be used in Windows to watch BD movies. They are 80-150 $.

As long as you get a SATA optical drive, you will 99% have no compatibility problems, nor will you need drivers.
I use a $35 Pioneer, and have burned hundreds of backups with it.
