Meh. When Apple let me use my HomePods as true rear speakers instead of limiting me to using two sets of stereo pairs I’ll know they’re taking Atmos seriously. Until then, they’re just toying with us.

I feel like there is a much higher chance of Apple creating their own proprietary spacial audio format than ever adopting Dolby Atmos. It's been well over a decade since Apple did anything that would even slightly enable their devices to play nicely with others. Imagine a world where technology worked seamlessly across devices through open standards regardless of brand. There was a time when that seemed like where things were going and a tech utopia was just around the corner. Unfortunately we all now know this didn't happen and instead companies started engineering proprietary ways of locking people into one system and then raising the price. There is a term for this phenomenon that I probably can't use here so I'll simply call it the en*poop*tification of technology. Replace the word in the asterisk and Google it for more.

Another excellent benefit of:

eARC

WebOS has been great of my LG tv. Also have a mid-range Samsung tv, not nearly as intuitive imo.

As televisions get slightly better OS (and updates) it make the tv less important for casual television users/viewers I believe.

Setup: tv, LG tv, denon avr, Klispsch 5.1.2 atmos, ...some audio tracks & movies sound amazing, others are just okay. Never sounds horrible though, rarely go to a theatre win/win for my household 😁✌️

I will never not have an ATV as long as Apple makes them. Regardless of the how nice the software on TVs get it will probably never have the polish of Apple’s. Also have a similar setup. ATV, Sony TV, Denon AVR, and a set of 5.2.4 Klipsch RP speakers. My TV is from 2017 and is getting a bit dated. Sony just announced the Bravia 9 and I’m considering pick up the 65”.

same here, same here! I've had almost every model of aTV (except 2)(1st gen, 1gen 1080p) and they have been a great experience. For non-tech people though, I am glad to see features being added to smart televisions, even though my smart tv is not hooked up to the internet. ✌️
