I have a 24" LG Ultrafine 4K monitor (bought through the Apple Store, so I know it's compatible) and an M1 Macbook Air. The monitor is great, but I can't get the internal speakers to work for more than a few seconds at a time. For example, Youtube will start playing, but the audio cuts out after a few seconds. I've tried multiple browsers and apps, same issue.

Could this be a software issue? OS is Big Sur, and the speakers are set correctly through System Preferences.

I've also tried switching cable inputs on both the computer and monitor, using the cable that came with the monitor. Should I order a different cable and try that?

Any advice?

Your monitor should have come with two cables, one regular USB-C, and one Thunderbolt. Are you using the Thunderbolt one? And is it plugged in one of the two Thunderbolt ports of the monitor?

Yes, I'm using the Thunderbolt cable and it's plugged into one of the Thunderbolt ports. Just tried switching ports again, but same issue.

Okay, I just noticed something... when watching Youtube, it starts okay, then the audio cuts out and the video gets choppy. It stops, then plays quickly as if to catch up (still with no sound) and then autoskips to the end and starts the "next video" countdown. This isn't happening on any other device.

Audio won't play at all on other apps. I've restarted the laptop multiple times. Could a background app be causing this? My computer is pretty much stock, except for Thunderbird and VPN.

Not sure what to do... the monitor is past the return window, but still under the one year warranty.
