Shows that absolutely no one on this forum can think a bit outside of the box. Everything must be related to supply. No! If it were supply issues then retailers like Apple would have a 8-10 week notice on their website for delivery.

LG is clearly going to release a new Ultrafine. It bewilders me to see you guys say this crap. I called the LG Press Office and they literally told me it is not because of supply shortages.

Look at that. That is what they are updating the old design too. No more big bezels, etc.

That is a nice looking monitor - love the size, design/bezels, price. but the dealbreaker is 140 ppi. If it were 6k like the XDR I would order immediately. I would assume LG (or whoever makes the XDR panels) signed some sort of exclusivity agreement with Apple so they couldn't be used in competing models but its been a year now, maybe we'll see something soon?

EDIT - To be fair, I guess since its USB and not Thunderbolt, they would need to use DP 2.0 for 6k resolution but the specs aren't clear on that.

Does the "LG Press Office" have some obligation to tell a random caller anything negative about their company (or about their current relationship with Apple, or any other reseller)?
More likely is that display is being replaced, and the new product is not released yet.
Not a "supply shortage", per se, but simple a product that is not yet supplied. (Can't be a supply shortage prior to the release of a new product, but it certainly can be listed as "Currently Unavailable"
I seriously doubt that a third-party manufacturer will tell anyone when Apple will either get a restock, or a new replacement product.
What does Apple tell you when you call and ask them?

I have an Ultrafine 5k, flawed if you will. I was gonna send it back to get a new one. Upon seeing that they were not available, I looked under the news regarding the monitor. Then I see almost 50 articles in the last 3 days copying each other and speculating about supply issues. Journalism is dead. Period. Macrumors and 9to5mac cannot follow basic journalistic principles.

Hopefully, the new Ultrafine (might be named "Super-duper-amazing-UltraFine) will be 6K, or 8K.
LG is the maker (not Apple), so until Apple actually has those new displays in stock, well, supply is ultimately LG's responsibility.
What was Apple's response when you asked about a return (it's possible that Apple has the Ultrafine "on the shelf"for such return/replacement, and those "keep back" units might not be available to sell to the new customer). Again, the Apple store may not be the final word when there may be spares available for returns.

Isn’t another logical explanation that Apple ordered a lot of 5K displays from LG in anticipation of yesterday’s rollout of the updated iMac? It could be that LG doesn’t do a full redesign of the Ultrafine 5K until the new Apple Silicon iMac is released (with presumably a more radical change in physical design).

Well, I hope you are right and either Apple releases a 27" monitor or LG updates their UltraFine lineup with a new design.

Obviously something new is coming, it's been 'sold out/unavailable' online across the US/CA/UK/AUS/NZ for a while now. The only stock available is for pickup in a small handful of random stores. Contact any of them and pretend you want to order 10, they will tell you what's in store is all they have available and "new stock is not expected at this time" or "we don't have any eta on new stock".

I would also like to add that I have returned 2, 1 in end June and 1 in August. (I initiated a return at the last time of the 14 days, then I get 14 more days to return). Both were May batch. There doesn't seem to be any June/July/August batch.

Again, Apple probably bought most of the screens that would have constituted the “June and July” batches for the new iMac. I don’t doubt that eventually the LG Ultrafine 5K will be updated but am not as confident that it will be imminent.

something must be going on, the 5k and 4k are now sold out everywhere.

They might have finally realize the return rate is abnormally high due to insane defective rate.

I have gone through 4 UltraFine 5K, and all of them exhibit some kind of defect.
From tint uniformity issue to broken backlit, and all come with mind to image retention, from mild to extreme.

I noticed the same the other day. I am actively searching for a 27 inches monitor recently. I am torn about the decisions if I should wait for Apple to release new monitors(not sure if it's gonna happen soon and i am a sucker for Apple products) or just buy a used LG ULTRAFINE 5K...

don't buy a ultrafine, they are all defective in some way
