Considering picking up an LG UltraFine 5K display to use with my new 15" tMBP. While I know the convenience of just having one cable is great, and something I'd lose if I went with another display, how does the quality of the actual panel in this compare to other displays? Color rendition, uniformity, ease of calibration, etc. I'd be using it mainly for photos and text documents so while the 5k is great, I don't necessarily need it, and could run with two lower resolution monitors if this one isn't really worth it. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

For what it is worth, I've seen (Dell) 5k and 4k models side-by-side, and I don't think the difference is financially justifiable considering you can often get two 4k displays for less than a single 5k (and you know the price on 5k will likely fall a lot in a few years.) Others may feel differently, so it's just my personal opinion.

If you want one wire only, perhaps this display or something like it and this charging station or something like it could be an option?

I got the Asus MX27UC and very happy with it. I also hear the LG 27UD88 is great as well. Both of them are 27" 4K and have USB-C.

Does anyone know if the LG UltraFine 5k can run a monitor daisy chained from the back (1920x1200) or would it have to be directly attached to the laptop?

You can't daisy chain this monitor. you would have to use another TB3 port on your MBP.

Boy, do I ever agree with this. I'm running twin Dell 27 at 4K@60hz and I saw one of these side-by-side with the LG. The difference wasn't there. In fact my friend insists that the Dell displays outperform his new LG for color rendition.

I'm a professional photographer and I zero value in the LG monitor, which is also a clunky ghastly looking display. The single cable is nice, but that's a 450 dollar monitor they're selling for top dollar and they can keep it.

If you must have 5K, there will be much nicer displays coming soon and for less money.

It's been 2yrs later and there is still not "much nicer displays" and certainly not for less money... in terms of 5k. I will say owning a lot of these LG 5K's they are junk overall... I've had to send them all in for repairs etc.... wonder why no one else can make a 5k display?
[doublepost=1553354821][/doublepost]My current LG5k is now retaining images in my screen.. if I leave a browser window open for 10 minutes and move it, I can still see the text ... think I'm going to start buying the Dell UP2718Q's again, the ones I have are flawless and the warranty is 100000000x better.. LG makes you send it in and if you extend it LG contracts it out to people who have no clue.
