Hi all

Looking for a new monitor.

Will only be used for App design in tools such as Sketch, Figma, Principle etc. hooked up to a 2019 MBP 15"

Right now Im looking at the new Ultrafine 5K as the best option but I also keep reading about people having all kinds of issues with it. Maybe its because we only hear about the bad stuff, I guess there is plenty of people who are happy with their Ultrafine 5K.

I also consider the PD3220U 4K display. Think 4K at 31.5" should be ok without any scaling.

Both have TB3, the Ultrafine have 96 watts VS the 45W of the PD3220U.

Any thoughts or experiences with one of the two monitors?

The 5k was recently updated so keep in mind any negative information you've read likely is targeted at the previous model.

I'd say color wise they're very much on par with each other.

I don't think you can go wrong with either as you could find advantages/disadvantages for having 5k @ 27" or 4k @ 32". The BenQ may be slightly overpriced though considering it's truly third party and LG at least worked closely with Apple to get everything right.

I went with the 5k for now and it's fine. I guess the reason I'm not blown away is because it looks exactly like my MacBook screen and that's what you'd expect for the price. It's great though.

I mean, that setup is usable if you've got good eyesight, but it's totally going against the grain of the DPI that the OS and all apps are designed for (110 for non-Retina, 220 for Retina)

I've owned both 4K @ 32" and 5K @ 27" and there's no contest regarding which makes more sense for macOS. It's why Apple are pretty much single-handedly keeping LG's production line for 5K panels worth running.

Thanks for the good insights :)

Im quiet happy with 27" at 1440p so I think the Ultrafine 5K is the monitor for me. Also because of the better apple integration.
