Wait. 2000$ for a single backlit LCD monitor with 600nit peak brightness and 60hz in 2025? And it’s not even an Apple product. Joke.
Making a 6K monitor run at 120Hz is no easy feat. It's not like taking your standard 60hz 1080p screen and bumping it to 120Hz. The bandwidth needed for 6K @ 120Hz is almost 88Gbps -- what's TB5 capable of?

I do hope Dell will introduce their "normal" 6K display early next year too. Under "normal" I mean that new 6K panel plus everything else available in the actual U3225QE - design, KVM, controls, etc, and without that ugly top border and a redundant web camera.

This monitor looks good on paper, but I would stay as far away from LG as is humanly possible. I have mostly purchased my monitors from LG and the quality has evaporated over the last few years, while the price continues to climb.

I have had nothing but issues with their 45" OLED gaming monitor (45GX950A) has been nothing short of a disaster. My first had tinny white dots down the left side. When I contacted LG for a replacement I was told they do not replace monitors and I would have to ship it to one of their repair centers and that it would take 6-9 weeks for it to be fixed. What a complete joke.

My Gallery series LG OLED TV G3 cannot even produce a steady bluetooth signal so that I can listen to movies late at night without disturbing other people in the house. Nope way to complex a technology for LG to be able to figure out. Oddly when I watch my much older and smaller Sony LED TV the bluetooth signal is perfectly strong and nice and steady and has no drop outs.

To anyone thinking of dropping their hard earned money on this thing, I would get a rabbits foot first, and rub it plenty before you place your order, because unless you get lucky and get a perfect monitor, good luck dealing with LG's customer service people.
I second this, I have a 5K2k 40" from LG and it had to be repaired 3 times in the first year and this problem was to the extent that they gave me extended warranty and said if it dies again they will just declare it a lemon and give me a full refund. The VP of LG of America personally called to apologize.

Never again. In my experience either buy your monitors from Dell or Apple. Both have very high quality displays and very good build quality. Apple's build quality is the best, while dell typically has better display technology for the price.

Samsung pushes the envelope for display technology but their reliability is horrible and their stands are made out of the thinnest and weakest plastic where each key press shakes your whole display. Junk over all, and they do a poor job with USB C/ Thunderbolt support

If people want a reference monitor, they need to be able to at least match that.
Or (at least) buy one of those wonderful TVs you mentioned... because the other thing they wouldn't need is 6k.

So, one of the cheaper 6k displays on the market then?

Unfortunate that it's capped at 60 Hz.
So your GPU can do smooth 6k at 120Hz? A 6k display already has more than twice as many pixels to shift than a 4k display, going from 60Hz to 120Hz will double that again. 120Hz a huge bandwidth/GPU power tradeoff to make your windows drag around slightly more smoothly.

This is a general-purpose display with masses of "real estate" and a MacOS-friendly better-than-retina ~220ppi definition.

It's not a reference display for professional video producers - if that's what you need, buy a 4k UHD or 8k reference display (or an OLED TV if you are on a budget).

It's not a gaming display - if you want 120Hz then 4k is a better compromise between PPI and Hz.

Is it any good? I don't know - but spec-wise it's a tool for a particular job.

Actually, in 2025 with the new non-Apple 6K displays coming out, the LG will be one of the most expensive ones. It's literally 50% more than the Asus 6K, which comes Calman colour calibrated. The advantage of the LG is that its chassis looks prettier (albeit still plastic) and it comes with Thunderbolt 5.

Given that the current mac studio can do:
  • Eight displays with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz or 4K resolution at up to 144Hz
  • Four displays with up to 8K resolution at 60Hz or 4K resolution at up to 240Hz
I can assure you a 6k at 120 hz wouldnt be an issue

Yes this has been my experience with LG as well, we'll all expect the part about getting an apology from anyone there. I have never been gaslighted as much as by the people who work at LG customer support. I spent almost an hour on the phone trying to prove to them that white dots were in fact a defect. I was told by one rep that it was normal to have white dots appear when the monitor was new. He literally and I quote said to me, "They will go away once the monitor breaks in".

After that I just hung up the phone. There was little point in wasting any more of my time.

My experience with LG has been they overpromise and over hype, but then what they deliver is often underwhelming.

I am not saying that Apple is perfect, as I have my issues with Apple recently as well. but at least Apple will accept an exchange and in a timely manner.

LG needs to rethink their current approach to customer issues, because it leaves a lot to be desired.

Yea my experince was awful, they kept asking me to take a picture of the issue (the issue is the LED was flickering violently, something impossible to see in a photo but easy to see in a video). The rep told me they need a picture to process anything and that they can't take video, so I sent a photo and of course "our engineers determined per the picture there is nothing wrong with the display" and thats when I went nuclear.

Good heavens, you don’t put a television on your desk and view it from 18 inches. TV’s are brighter because we sit ten feet away from them.
Again, that's not how HDR brightness works.

While I agree you don't put a 65" TV on your desk to view from 18 inches, the distance is not why TVs are brighter.

What's up with nobody making glossy monitors? So many high end panels getting ruined by having matte. At least have the option. Most people I know buying expensive displays don't want matte. That's a deal killer for me.

From an appearance perspective at least, this is essentially a textbook example of "copy my homework, but change a couple of words so it's not identical!"

I won't buy another display, but I will certainly spend the corresponding amount to go again to Antelope Canyon 😍.

Hopefully LG will bring out a 6k 32 inch tandem oled at 120hz monitor They have managed to use tandem oled in their g5 tv range so here’s for wishful thinking
