So my $3,500 brand new C8 is intentionally being made obsolete right out of the box.

Sorry, but you've got to help me out with your logic here. In what way is it being made obsolete? A function that it never had and was never advertised as having isn't being added to it?

A new function doesn't render anything without that function obsolete!

Vizio went as far as 2016, and sells 300$ TVs.
I expect my LG C7 that I paid over 2K to be supported as least as long as 300$ TVs...

LG is just advertising to its buyers that they won’t support their TVs for very long — even brand new TVs still on the market!!. This does absolutely nothing for them. People who just bought a new LG tv aren’t going to buy another one just for AirPlay. All this tells them is that LG screws its customers. Terrible decision.

For people like myself who own a 3 year old LG TV and are due for a purchase in a year or two, we’ve been warned: buy Vizio or Samsung. Thanks for the heads up LG!

Just echoing the comments about the 8th gen models (the newest models you can actually buy) not getting these updates. Hilarious, LG. I have a 65-inch C8 and it’s an amazing TV, but I don’t care because I have an Apple TV 4K.

How are you guys liking your LG OLEDs? I'm on the fence about buying one right now. There is a pretty crazy sale at NewEgg where I can get an LG C8 65" for $1899 or a B8 for $1699. Do you guys have retention or burn-in issues? Is the C8 worth the extra $200? I currently have a 42" LG LCD 1080p from 2009, lol. Thanks.

Exactly. I just bought one before Christmas. They can’t go back and add this feature to TVs they are still selling as of today? I’d even pay for the update too.

Yeah, sounds quite cheap of them not adding it to a bit older models as well but I would guess they have difficulties getting ppl to upgrade since eg their oled panels have been so good last years already.

We have LG 2017 OLED modell and can’t find any big diff on newer modell compelling enough to upgrade already. An ATV4K with that makes me avoid its built in software already anyway.

I guess my 65" C8 is outdated already

So my $3,500 brand new C8 is intentionally being made obsolete right out of the box. Great marketing LG, screwing your most loyal customers on current high-end models. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory over other brands is genius.

So who's the brainiac in marketing trying to get us all to return our post-holiday purchases, while Christmas buyers get stuck with their big sheet of coal? Vizio and Samsung should send him a bonus.

At first I thought that it wasn’t smart including Airplay into the televisions... but they really doesn’t have a choice if they want to compete with Amazon and Google and also want to make their upcoming streaming service a success.

I think my 1-year old LG OLED needs an update ;)

I’ve bought an LG OLED in 2018. You won’t be disappointed and I personally prefer the color calibration on an LG above the screens of Samsung (much softer to the eyes).

I really hope the 2018 also receive an update if possible.

I have the 65" C7 I bought in July 2017 and I am very happy with it. No burn in or IR at all.

I the only advantage of the C8 over the B8 is the speakers.

I have a decent sound bar. I saw somewhere that the C8 might be a little brighter, but I didn't know if that made a difference in real world conditions. Our living room can get pretty bright, but as I just commented in the Hunter Douglas HomeKit thread, maybe I'll finally be getting some new shades for the back of the house where the sun comes in. Thanks for your input!

I have the 55’ C7 and love it; the picture is superb! No burn in or other issues. The sound is ok for a tv...
If anything I regret not going 65’ :)

That not true, the C8 has a better processor.

I love the picture quality :)

C8 has a better processor. I’ve never experienced some lag.

That’s funny, I also had a 42” LG LCD from 1080P from 2009. It ended with a big bang because a capacitor exploded. But I was still very happy with the picture quality for it broke. I personally preferred it above new Samsung models bought by friends. Those colors on a Samsung are too saturated and don’t come natural for me.

Now I’m having the LG OLED65C8PLA and love it. It has a very fast processor and doesn’t have any lag. I even got rid of my Apple TV because I love webos 4 even more. Hope they’ll support airplay and HomeKit with a future update but don’t really miss it.

As a consumer and fellow member of the LG OLED community, I think it’s important to make everyone aware that there is a social movement comprised of thousands of people trying to get the attention of LG. The aim is to let them know that their loyal customer base is not happy with their stance on refusing to release the HomeKit and AirPlay 2 updates to the 8 and 7 series LG televisions.

Thank you for your efforts. As an owner of a C8 I would welcome an update with HomeKit and airplay :)

Even non-LG owners should be interested in this effort. It would set a dangerous precedent in the TV industry if LG can get away with it. It would place an additional factor for artificial, planned obsolescence in a very expensive consumer investment. And if LG can get away with it, others are sure to follow. Samsung, Sony, Vizio, Panasonic, and even generic brands would absolutely do it if LG demonstrates that consumers will tolerate it.

What's this got to do with my post? In what way are the models that aren't going to be upgraded to enable AirPlay 2 now obsolete? They'll continue working exactly as they did before. Obsolete does not mean "not the latest model".

My bad, I didn’t realize I was replying to your comment. I was trying to post a new comment. Oops.

I got my dad an LG tv for Christmas. I’m assuming it’s a 2018 model since I bought it in 2018. So there won’t be an update or anything so that it can use AirPlay? I’m a bit disappointed that there aren’t more options for this with all the other things the smart TVs can do.. ‍♀️

How about they bring them to their 8 series OLEDs that they are still selling...
I have an LG E8 65" OLED I bought in January this year. I would be very dissapointed if, given it was very expensive - it is not allowed the mere firmware update to allow airplay 2 and homekit - especially given it has google assistant compatibility...

You couldn't have said it better. I just bought an E8 65" in January of this year, and note they are still selling them as current stock; and nothing has been said about any updates to it allowing airplay!! very bad!
