if you could give me, or anyone else on this forum, one piece of life advice or a life lesson or something to remember in life what would it be?

I think Allen Iverson said it best.

"I just want people to know that I play every game like it's my last."

Slight paraphrasing, I couldn't find the exact quote.

Don't ever turn down an opportunity to do something different. You'll only regret it later.

Never assume you'll know what you would do in a particular situation if you haven't been in it – and treat others likewise.

1. The best things in life are free.
2. If all else fails, take a walk. Sometimes, the solution comes to you.
3. Resist the urge to let what others do and say get to you.
4. Chill out. Things could always be worse.
5. Financial problems do not get better by having another kid.
6. Save 25% of what you make always.
7. You are going to die, and in the cosmic sense, soon. Enjoy each day.
8. Know when to quit.
9. Know when not to quit.
10. Trust your instincts.

These never fail me.

That people will turn against you at the drop of a hat, for no other reason than sheer fickleness and the words of others. You can be alone in a crowded room.

"Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as
effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing
bubblegum.
The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that
never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm
on some idle Tuesday."

Baz Luhrmann - Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)

1. The most important to me: Never be complacent. And this applies to everything. Be present in your conversations with others (no saying 'hey how are you?' and then ceasing to listen), be aware of your surroundings (this is something completely different from paranoia, which much be avoided), and put as much into every task as you want to get out of it.

2. If you have any good friends, don't take them for granted - it shouldn't have to take a bad situation to show you just how important they are to you.

The 2nd time somebody really hurts you - leave them. Be they friends, family or a partner. Similarly avoid destructive personalities.

1. Don't trust anyone.
2. Life is sh*t and there's nothing you can do about it.
3. Fighting back/Complaining only makes things worse. (unless it's something like getting your dishwasher replaced because it didn't work)
4. When you're feeling low, know that you can get through it, because something will happen that will make you feel better again.
5. Try and give everything a chance.
6. Buy a Mac
7. Life's great if you choose to let it be.
8. Life is unexpected. You never know what is going to happen. One day you could be depressed. The next you could be over the moon.

All I could think of off the top of my head :p

If you are attracted to someone you know, don't keep it to yourself. Don't hint. Don't be overt. Don't try to hide it. Otherwise, you will threaten that friendship. You will make that person feel uncomfortable. Something will feel "off" to her/him or even worse, make you seem creepy. They'll spend a lot of time thinking about what you really want...and feel like you are hiding something (you are, after all). That person will feel suspicion and a sense that they can't fully trust you.

Even if that person doesn't share your feelings, the honesty and openness will be a relief to you both...and can only better your friendship. Be true to your feelings and who you are. There is nothing wrong with falling in love with a friend. That would never ruin a friendship. The only way it could potentially ruin a friendship is if you keep those feelings to yourself and try to hide them...no matter how you try, you can never do that.

Honesty is the most important part of any relationship....be it with friends, family, significant other, etc....

I think the most important life lesson for us, especially in this day and age, is to remember that fear is our only true obstacle. We can do anything we want, but in order to do so, we must first be ready to set aside any hesitations.

Just learned one yesterday the hard way (I won't get into detail): don't make snap decisions when it comes to important matters. Sleep on it before you do something you'll seriously regret.

Get your driver's license as early as possible even if you don't intend to drive.
I'm 25 and I still don't have my license. Don't even want to know what my insurance premiums will look like when I finally do learn to drive...

A plastic drop cloth is a must to keep the blood out of the carpet.

Edit: ooops, sorry, nevermind ... wrong lesson.
