Great advice. I have completely given up on getting new stuff first. The only time I've gone for the newest of the new gadgets is when I got my D300. My old DSLR was broken, and I was going to Japan only 2 days after receiving my camera. I had time to charge the battery, test the camera for bugs (i.e. playtime ;) ), and then pack it with my laptop the night before. My excuse: I needed a camera to bring to Japan, and it would have been a waste of my lonely lenses not to get a camera to accompany them. ;)

P.S.: Love your screenname. ;)

That: surprises are abundant - you just never know. :)

A great deal of people are batshyte crazy, untrustworthy twunts and it's wise to pay mind to that.

but in the spirt of:
Don't let the bastards grind you down
I am starting to let this one sink in a bit more too. ;)

Focus on the things you can change, and let go of those you can't.
