The three-year old charger for my MBP gradually stopped working over a period of two-three months. Now it doesn't work at all. Is this normal? Do these things have a short life span?

No, that's not normal. I've had a charger that has worked for nearly 4 years now, and another that died overnight after 1 month.

As with all products, some are defective.

You had it for three years? Then yes it's normal. Apple only gives you a one year hardware warranty.

Thanks for the feedback. I understand it only has a one-year warranty just like almost every piece of electronic equipment and every household appliance I've ever purchased. Most of them don't completely give out after three years.

PSU's for laptops usually only have a 12 month warranty, unless its an Asus which have 24 months on everything. I have yet to replace a PSU on any laptop I have had over the years (Windows or MAC).
