Considering the long history of performance diversity and quality of Apple products, everyone knows examples of "Dark Apple Style"
Butterfly keyboards,
cooling of the CPUs
mouse connected from below for charging.
expensive apps
customer service policy

It is advisable to keep a safe distance from new releases of Apple technologies, especially to releases with such a big impact as new processors like the M1. Let's ask a simple question - how many of the widely used apps, will work with this processor?

If this approach of safe distance was not based on facts, the result of the search for the "best laptop", would definitely not crown the technology that is over 5 years old.

I would let their technology prove for a few years first, in the hands of other people

By the way, it is not the 'system' that is quiet, but the moving parts of the computer, and since SSD hard drives have been standard in laptops for a few years now. It will be the fan that makes all the noise.

And talking about heating, Apple's cases are tricky in this matter....

A good argument for dumping Intel.

Every new Apple product gives you new technology.

That is so Nonsense. Processor heat up because of entrophy and termodynamics not becasue it is not made by Apple.

However, if Apple were to make another processor without a fan or heat sink because this time they found a way to circumvent these rules of reality, they would certainly shake our livelihood.

So far as this is not a reality where we live in, please educate your self, read smth like "why CPU produces heat while it is running" and keep your self bit away from Trolling for some time. Thanks

Fallacy.

Coming back to the topic,
it seems that best computer to choose, from not brand new ones, is 5 y.o. technology, because newer than that, didnt passed test of time.

i cringe when i hear “technologies” the word is not plural and a horrible sales pitch.
to defend apple, they remedied all their faults

I have heard once that if someone cannot relate to the subject matter in the discussion, they point out grammatical errors.

at whose expense?

thanks :)
your welcome!
apple listen to my complaints over high sierra and made Mojave
just the phrase, "technologies" is plain wrong realistically,
there is no such thing
but i get what you are aiming at.
oh
i'm typing these words on a Dell XPS.
long story........

I am also glancing on the Dell XPS 9500. Smaller footprint than the MBP 16 (actually its about as big as a typical 14" laptop albeit having a great 16:10 15,6" screen), SSD and RAM replaceable, full-size SD card reader, status LED, 4K touchscreen option, stronger GPU with CUDA support. Speaking about CUDA, together with OpenGL/CL and Vulcan the widley used API standards. Apple f*cked up all three of them, in favor for their own proprietary Metal crap, which only runs on macOS and iOS. Now add 32bit and x86, also dead now. I am all in for progress, but just like with their all USB-C ports dongle madness, they don't think twice, they go too radical, and they forget that their macOS market share is hovering around miserably 10%. A lot of we-set-our-own-standards arrogance shown in such a situation. While more and more software companies and open-source developers are getting fed up, like Blender 3D, deciding to reduce features or stop developing for the Apple platform entirely. No matter how great the M1 may be, it doesn't benefit me at all, if the software I need is not getting supported any longer. Super frustrated I am and many other Pros, who first got screwed with Aperture, then the initial FCPX versions and now 3D/CAD artists. Vendor lock-in, no thank you Apple.

Gonna stick with my rMBP 2015 + Mojave combo as long as I can... :(

Since the 2015 15" MBP is such a hot topic of discussion ITT I figured I would piggyback off the convo to let y'all know that I just picked one up off eBay the other day and man oh man is this thing a BEAST!

It's my first time actually owning a MacBook Pro after years and years lusting for one. Got my stimulus check on Monday and did some searching around for used MBP's or potentially retina iMacs. I was leaning towards getting a laptop but they were always much more expensive. But I browsed around and saw a 2015 15" MPB with a bid of around $130 with a couple hours left on it. I watched it like a hawk. Now... I had been trying to get a similar model for over a year but always got outbid since these laptops are highly desirable and we all know the reasons why. Anyway, this one was calling to me and I just couldn't believe the price. It was too good to be true, right? So I watched and waited.

So here we are, 30 minutes left and the price has jumped to $510, still a remarkable figure for this computer. I hesitated, didn't want to start a bidding war in the closing minutes. So I waited again. Now it's down to the last two minutes and once again I sat back. I was thinking, even if I put a good bid this guy probably has like 700-800 down on this thing, now way I'll beat him out in time.

With 20 seconds left I put in a max bid of $530 knowing full well it wouldn't be enough but hey why not give it a shot. There's just no way I'm getting this nice of a MacBook for that kind of money....

Except I did. I won the darn thing for $520!!! Are you kidding me?!?!?! Paid for it right away, tax and shipping together put the final price right at $580. Didn't come with a charger so I clapped one of those 60W MS2 for another $20.

And I'm typing on it right now. This thing has a brand new battery installed and a new keyboard which wasn't even listed in the description. Holy crap what a STEAL. This thing puts my laggy iMac to absolute shame. I think I'm love!!!! 😍

That's a great price.

I'm typing on my 2014 which is also a good year but I use my 2015 daily as well. It's nice to not worry about needing a bunch of dongles.

Great price indeed! I payed 1100€ one year ago (and still was one of the cheapest on Ebay, considering battery + topcase/keyboard + display had been freshly replaced before) and I still don't regret it, currently typing on it. Also a badass Serato DJ laptop and still more than strong enough for Photoshop and 1080p editing. Just love it.

There will be always haters who cry about "how can you buy a 5y old device?" but then I counter "there are still plenty of people that do fine even with 2010 MBPs". The aluminum case alone screams durability. I will definitely miss that.
